    Order of operations for foundational design elements

    When building your Sketch files for your design system from scratch, there is an ideal order of operations.

    Create your foundations in the following order:

    1. Colors (color variables and layer styles)
    2. Typography (text styles)
    3. Icons
    The folder structure chosen in Sketch pulls into DSM. If you’re using Sketch’s slash naming convention (e.g. button/primary/default), you’ll see that it comes over as a folder hierarchy structure when uploading to DSM. On your documentation site, we recommend you choose to follow a similar structure but you can do something different. Just know that the slash naming structure will remain the same when building with a DSM managed library in Sketch.
