FAQs and next steps to prepare for end of services

Account

  • When are InVision's services shutting down and what do I need to do to prepare?

The last day InVision will be available is December 31, 2024. All of your documents, including prototypes, Freehands, specs, boards, DSM, and all assets, will be deleted at 11:59 PM EST on December 31, 2024.

To make your transition as easy as possible, we recommend switching to another tool for any new projects immediately. If you have a large number of documents in your InVision account, we encourage you to start deciding which ones you would like to keep and begin exporting that data as soon as possible.

Our Freehand visual collaboration product was acquired by Miro. Miro has exciting plans for Freehand and will be communicating with Freehand customers directly moving forward. Please see the Documents section below for more information on tools recommendation.

  • What’s going to happen to my account and documents?

The last day when you'll be able to access your InVision account is December 31, 2024. We will begin the shutdown process at 11:59 PM EST on that date, and your account, along with all its data, will be permanently deleted. Please note that we will not be able to recover any documents that may be in your account after the shutdown date. See the Documents section below for more information on how to export your documents.

  • Will I be able to request an extension?

Unfortunately, we won't be able to offer any extensions. Please ensure that you've backed up anything you want to keep by December 31, 2024. We strongly recommend initiating the export process early in 2024. Anticipating a high demand in the final months before the shutdown, there is a possibility that our servers may become unavailable at times. Note that we cannot extend your access beyond December 31, 2024, to allow for additional time to export documents. See the Documents section below for more information on how to export your documents.

  • Will I be able to keep my account if I upgraded to a higher tier plan?

No, all of InVision services across all plans (including Enterprise) will be permanently shut down. However, since Freehand has been acquired by Miro, we recommend starting a Miro account and moving your workflows there. Miro has exciting plans for Freehand and will be communicating them shortly

  • I'm on V6 Free plan. Will my access be removed earlier?

No, we've extended everyone's full access until December 31, 2024 to give you plenty of time to export your data.

  • I’m ready to delete my account earlier. How can I do it?

If you’re a V6-only customer, you can self-delete your account at any time by following these steps. For all other users, your account and all data will be fully deleted shortly after December 31, 2024, so there is no need to contact us.

  • Who should I contact if I need help before December 31, 2024?

Our Support team will continue to be available to help with any InVision-related questions you may have until December 31, 2024. If you're an Enterprise customer, please also feel free to reach out to your Account Manager.

  • Who should I contact if I need help after December, 31, 2024?

InVision will fully shut its doors on December 31, 2024, 11:59 PM EST, which means our Support team will no longer be available to assist with any InVision-related questions after that date. Here are a few points of contact that may be able to assist with those specific inquiries:

-If you're an Enterprise customer and have got questions about your contract, or need help setting up in Miro: reach out to your Account Manager

-For any technical questions about Miro or help with their product: contact Miro’s support team

Documents

  • How long do I have to export my documents?

Your documents will be available in your account until December 31, 2024. We strongly recommend initiating the export process early in 2024. Anticipating a high demand in the final months before the shutdown, there is a possibility that our servers may become unavailable at times. Please note that we will not be able to extend your access beyond December 31, 2024, to allow for any additional time to export documents.

  • How do I export my documents?

Prototypes: Check out this article for instructions on how to export your prototypes

Freehands: Check out this article for instructions on how to export your Freehands

Boards & specs (V7): we recommend converting those documents to Freehand first. You will then be able to export the Freehand document to a PNG image

Boards (V6): To export your V6 boards, follow the steps in this article

Assets (V6): To export your V6 assets, follow the steps in this article

DSM libraries: DSM content cannot be exported in full from your published library. Our recommendation is to back up the local Sketch source file used to create your library. If you'd like to download icons only, check out this article.

  • Is there a bulk export option?

Unfortunately, a bulk export is not available, so you'll need to export each document one by one. Please note that our Support team will not be able to export documents on your behalf.

If you're exporting a large number of documents, we recommend using our document filters to organize your documents by last created, viewed, or updated date. We've also put together this article with a list of best practices for offboarding from InVision.

If you're moving to Miro, you can use their bulk importer to sync your Freehand documents to Miro.

  • Will my exported prototypes continue to work after InVision has been decommissioned?

Yes. Any document that has been exported and saved locally will be available post-shutdown. This includes any offline (.zip) prototypes – they will continue to function as they do today since they don't rely on our services.

  • Will my share links continue to work after InVision has been decommissioned?

Once your documents are deleted, all existing share links will no longer work.

  • What’s your recommended alternative for Freehands?

Our Freehand visual collaboration product was acquired by Miro. Miro has exciting plans for Freehand and will be communicating with Freehand customers directly moving forward.

Miro offers capabilities built for all stages of innovation, hundreds of templates, and it connects with over 130+ apps to align your team in one scalable, secure workspace. For more information and to sign up for free, visit this page.

Please note that any Freehand documents that were created in your InVision account will not automatically transfer to Miro but you can use their importer tool to move them across. The Freehand migration token is valid only for two weeks from the date you received the token. From December 31, 2024, 11:59 PM EST onwards, Freehand and all associated migration tokens will be discontinued and invalidated. Users will no longer be able to generate new tokens or access Freehand.

  • What’s your recommended alternative for prototyping?

Miro also has integrations with Figma so for all of the functionality you were leveraging between prototypes and Freehand, Figma and Miro is a great option.

  • Could the security of my account be compromised as you’re shutting things down?

Security of your account and data is absolutely paramount to us and will continue to maintain the practices outlined in our security documentation until the very end.

  • Are you still fixing issues and bugs?

We’ll continue to make critical security and platform bug fixes and support a reliable product. If you're running into any technical issues, please reach out to our Support team

  • Can I still request a feature or improvement?

We will no longer make any product enhancements in InVision. If you'd like to log a feature request with Miro (for their visual collaboration tools, including Freehand), please contact Miro’s Support team.

Billing

  • Can I still purchase or renew a paid InVision subscription?

If you're a non-Enterprise customer, you can purchase a monthly non-Enterprise plan.

Please note that we can no longer offer annual subscriptions or Enterprise plans for new design (prototyping, DSM, etc.) customers. If you were exploring Freehand or are interested in an Enterprise plan with Miro, please let us know and we'll be happy to connect you with their Sales team.

  • What is going to happen to my recurring paid plan?

All active, paid subscriptions will be automatically cancelled on December 31, 2024, and no further payments will be collected after that date.

  • Will my annual non-Enterprise plan automatically renew?

You can continue with your annual plan as normal until your current billing period ends. After that, you'll be automatically moved to an equivalent, ongoing monthly plan unless you've canceled your subscription before your renewal date.

  • How do I cancel my current subscription?

If you’re a non-Enterprise customer, you can cancel your subscription by following the steps in this article.

  • Can I request a refund?

As per our Terms of Service, InVision subscriptions are non-refundable. Rest assured, you will continue to have full access to all features associated with your paid plan until your subscription runs out. If your current plan term extends past December 31, 2024, please reach out to your Account Manager (for Enterprise plans) or our Support team (for non-Enterprise plans) to discuss your options.

  • Will I have access to my invoices?

Your invoices will be available in your InVision account up until December 31, 2024. We will not be able to provide a copy after that date so please be sure to download them in advance.

  • I’m an Enterprise customer and would like to discuss our renewal options

We can no longer offer Enterprise plan renewals but you will be able to upgrade to a Pro plan, once your current Enterprise term expires.

You can now import your content from Freehand into Miro to leverage a variety of features tailored to your collaborative needs. For more information, please check out this article. If you’ve got any general questions about Miro's data migration service, please contact Miro directly.

Please be aware that the Freehand migration token is valid only for two weeks from the date you received the token. From December 31, 2024, 11:59 PM EST onwards, Freehand and all associated migration tokens will be discontinued and invalidated. Users will no longer be able to generate new tokens or access Freehand.

  • Will Miro's importer move all of my documents?

Miro's importer will help you migrate your Freehand documents to Miro. There is a bulk import option available as well. For more information, please check out this article. Note: Miro's importer does not support the migration of other document types such as prototypes and boards.

If you’ve got any questions about Miro’s data migration service, please contact Miro.

  • Since Freehand is owned by Miro, can I keep my Freehand documents past December 31, 2024?

No. Any Freehand documents or content created in your InVision account will be deleted on December 31, 2024, 11:59 PM EST. It won't be possible to transfer them to Miro or retain them in your InVision account after that date.

  • Is any of my personal data going to be transferred to Miro?

At this time there is no plan for Miro to take over provision of InVision services to our customers. If that changes, InVision will request its enterprise customers' approval before transferring customer data to Miro. You should be aware that any customer data contained in Freehand documents which you opt to transfer to Miro may contain personal data. Some basic personal data, such as account contact information, may also be shared by InVision with Miro in accordance with InVision's Privacy Policy.
