Collaborate on prototypes by adding comments and emoji to screens. You’ll be able to select different comment types, add more people to the conversation, or keep conversations private. At this time, it’s not possible to add a general comment to the prototype; you’ll need to add comments to specific screens instead.

Adding/Removing a Comment

To add a comment to a prototype screen:

  1. Open the prototype and go into a screen.
  2. Click into comment mode.
    Collaborators (users added to the prototype via the + button) and Enterprise Reviewers will need to click the conversation icon at the bottom of the screen to go into Comment Mode.

  3. Consumer Reviewers (people you send a URL share to) will need to toggle comments on at the bottom right of the screen.
  4. Click anywhere on the screen to leave a comment.

5. If logged out of your InVision account or you do not have an account, InVision authenticates your comment by asking for your name and email address:


6. If your email address is not associated with an InVision account, you will be prompted to create a new InVision account before your comment will post to the prototype. If your email address is associated with an InVision account, click Sign In at the bottom of the modal:



Once you've entered the correct password, future comments will post to the project.

Delete a Comment

To delete a comment you must either be the prototype owner or the user that left the comment.

1. Hover to the right the commenter's name/timestamp- this will reveal a trash can and pen icon. 
2. Click the trash can to delete that comment. 

Note: There is currently no way to leave generalized comments on multiple screens. While in comment mode, you can use the Right/Left arrow keys on your keyboard to toggle through each page and make comments.

Comment Types

When you leave a comment on a prototype, you can choose between the following comment types by clicking the drop down menu next to Leave a Comment.

To converse with your external users, select the pink Comment comment type. Choosing this comment type makes the comment viewable both within the app and via URL shares.

A Private Comment is only viewable to you and collaborators (users with an InVision account that you added via the + button on your prototype). External stakeholders are unable to see these comments.

A Note (formerly called a Dev Note) is a comment type that can only be seen by the prototype owner and collaborators on a prototype. External stakeholders/clients are unable to see these comments.

Adding Someone to your Comment

You can notify someone on a prototype or board by using our @ mention feature in a comment. Simply enter @ along with their name (or @project) in your comment/reply.

If you’re commenting on a screen on a prototype or board you don’t own, by default the screen owner is always @mentioned. Their @mention name will not appear in the reply box, but they will be listed in the “x person will be notified” area.

Replying to an Existing Comment

When you reply to an existing comment, Inbox automatically inserts an @mention for the last person who commented, as well as any other users that have been @mentioned.

Removing a User who you Previously Mentioned

If you’d rather not notify a user with an @mention, simply delete the @mention before posting the comment.

Mentioning a User Who is Not Collaborating

When you type  “@” into the comment field in Inbox, a modal will launch which lists all members in an Enterprise or people in a consumer plan. If you're attempting to @ someone who does not exist as a current subscriber or collaborator, you'll be able to add them here by typing in their email address (e.g. @reed@invisionapp.com).

Mentioning a Group

You can also enter @project to notify everyone collaborating on the prototype or board of your comment, which will notify all users, regardless of their role, that have commented or been mentioned on the thread.


When someone is @mentioned, they will receive an email notification. If they reply to that email, all individuals who have been @mentioned or participated within that conversation, as well as the screen owner, will be notified.
