Prototype mode shouldn't allow users to go back and forth in the screens

We use Invision prototypes extensively to conduct usability tests on our features. One major issue that I have noticed is that the user is allowed to go backwards and forwards in the series of images.

There should be an option to not allow that as that defeats the whole purpose of conducting a usability test. We stitch the screens according to the task flow and allowing the user to skip that and move ahead leads to more confusion because they can't figure out where to go back.

I'd suggest you have a usability test mode that can enable designers to control such things.

Hi Poornima,

Thanks so much for reaching out today!

Currently, share links do allow navigation using the arrow keys or buttons by default, however, it is certainly possible to disable these.

To do this, you will need to go to the share link settings and disabling the "Allow access to all screens in prototype" setting.

You can read about this, and the other share link setting options, in this article: Prototype share link settings

I hope that information helps, but please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions!

Best,
Raynor

Hi,

These instructions are for inVision 6. What do you do if you are on inVision 7? Is this setting gone or is it somehow located elsewhere?

This makes usability testing really really difficult without this feature.

Thanks

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Camille from the InVision support team here. Thanks for reaching out.

Currently, toggling off the option "Enable arrow key navigation" will hide the arrow keys in the desktop browser and stop users from navigating between screens via arrow keys, but it doesn't stop users from swiping between screens in mobile browsers. Our apologies for the inconvenience!

Our Product team is tracking interest in adding the ability to prevent users from swiping to navigate on mobile browsers, so I've added your voice and use case to this feature request.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Best,

Camille

Hi Camille,

Ok, this is a pretty critical feature in my opinion. It basically makes mobile prototyping very flaky. I have accidentally swiped to other screens multiple times during testing. I would prefer to be back on v6 until the feature is re-instated. Is there a way to rollback to v6 as a preference?
