Sketch plugin: Unable to upload artboards after Craft update

After the latest Craft update I'm unable to upload artboards to projects from Sketch plugin.

Hi all,

Thank you so much for reaching out to alert us about the issue with Craft Sync.

Our Engineers have identified the source of the issue and have released a fix. Please update your Craft Manager once more and let us know if you run into any more troubles.

Same here. I deleted Craft completely and reinstalled. I did the same with Sketch. Still not allowing sync from Sketch.

I still couldn't sync my Sketch to InVision right now as of Fri, Feb 12. Stuck in upgrading Craft.

I'm still unable to update craft in order to upload sketch files. Clicking on the "Update available" button takes me to the progress screen, but nothing happens.

Mac version 10.15.4
Craft version 1.0.104

Hi Jessica, I just downloaded Craft and also am unable to sync with Sketch. Doesnt appear to do anything...no option to select between sketch nd photoshop and no sync icon in Sketch.

Hi Mel & Anna,

Thank you for reaching out! I'm sorry about the troubles you've been running into in updating Craft.

Could you please fully quit and restart both Craft and Sketch and let me know if you still have troubles updating after that? Here's how you do it:

  1. Quit Craft Manager completely. For this, please open Activity Monitor, locate CraftManager, and click the Force a process to quit button (the one with a close icon).
  2. Repeat the same process to quit Sketch.
  3. Open Sketch and Craft again.

Additionally, could you please share a few additional details, to help me pinpoint what might be causing this?

  • Could you please send a screenshot or screen recording showing what happens when you try to update?
  • Do you still run into the same issue if you try connecting to a different WiFi (non-office, if applicable) or mobile data connection?

Having the same problem, craft manger wont update, just hangs on the updating screen. And the sketch plugin wont sync. Clicking sync button just opens craft manger and back into the same cycle.

Craft: 1.0.104
OSX: 11.2.1 (20D74)
Sketch: 70.4 (109185)

I force quit both Craft and Sketch using Activity Monitor and restarted them. Sketch is still showing me the update progress bar and syncing isn't available. I don't have another wifi to try connecting to.

If the troubleshooting steps that Camille provided earlier are not resolving the issue for you, please provide the following details and we'll be happy to pass this onto our Support team for further assistance. 

  • Could you please provide some screenshots or a recording of the issue and any error messages?
  • Which versions of Craft and Sketch are you running?
  • Could you please confirm which version of macOS you're running, or include a screenshot of your About This Mac panel?

I tried what Camille provided earlier but it's still not working for me. Below are all the information that hopefully is helpful enough to diagnose the issue.

  1. The first modal popped up when I clicked on the Craft icon on the tool bar in Sketch when I tried to upload.
  2. However, there's no "Upload" button at the bottom. 
  3. So I assumed the Update was required before uploading.
  4. Then I clicked on "UPDATE AVAILABLE"
  5. The second picture showed a loading state but the reality is, the progress bar below never moved.
  6. Lastly, I quitted the modal.

There's no way for me to fix the issue by just force quitting, reopening it and trying it again. Because nothing happened after that no matter how many times I tried. It has been 6 days (4 business days) since the last time I synced my artboards to InVision as you can see in the first picture.

OK, I think I got a fix! I tried everything mentioned above with no luck. This, however, worked.

1. Quit Craft (gear icon in header dropdown)

2. Quit Sketch

3. Download Craft plug-in. https://www.invisionapp.com/craft ("try again" link at bottom of page) Should be 1.0.105, I think. (command-I after selecting the app in Finder).

4. Go to Applications folder - find Craft app and dump it (if it won't allow it's still loaded in your header)

5. Get new CraftManager from your DL folder and drop it into the Applications folder.

Start Sketch, turn on Craft in Plug-ins Manager, should load menu in app and icon in header - with NO "update"

Hopefully this works for you.

Thanks for the follow up, Raynor! I think you need to look into this further, if only for those who might be suffering in silence with respect to how Craft updates itself. From my experience, I've had issues with Craft needing constant updating (mid to late 2020), hangs on updating (lately), and generally not retaining plug in status in Sketch.

It seems somewhat clear that one fix was as simple as deleting old and installing new in the right order. Perhaps that's the best place to start the investigation – with the hidden update process.
