Rotate element in Freehand

Hi there, I've recently started using Freehand and I can't seem to rotate elements, am I missing something? I'm about to start a new role and would make good use of freehand but not being able to rotate text is limiting. Thanks Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for taking the time to write into Community to share your feedback about this.

It's not currently possible to rotate objects within Freehand, but this is something that our Product team is monitoring the interest for.

I will open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest for this potential feature. Please keep an eye out for an email indicating that we’ve formally tracked your feedback.

Have a great day!

Regards,
Raynor

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem as Dan -  at this moment Freehand is not as "free" as it's supposed to be. Lack of this feature irritates a lot especially when creating custom templates with text. For now I am forced to leave the product until it's fixed and that's a bummer.

PS Honestly I'm surprised that it's not a default feature - other tools allows you that in "free" mode. :(

Cheers
Kamil

Hi Kamil,

Thanks for getting in touch and adding your voice to this!

The ability to rotate elements is not behind a paywall, but rather a potential feature that our Product team are monitoring the interest for as they plan for the future roadmap of InVision.

I can certainly understand the frustration at not having a feature that is important to your workflow, but I see that you already have a ticket linked up to this feature request so rest assured that your feedback and vote have been passed on for consideration.

Thanks so much, Kamil!

Best,
Raynor

Hi,

I would like to add my voice to this issue as well.  I created a stacked bar chart from a set of rectangles and grouped them.  I just wanted to rotate the chart and to my surprise, that was not possible.  Rotating an object is a basic usability feature.  The product team understand that missing basic features that most users expect to be included in a drawing tool is simply unacceptable.

Hi Bill,

Thanks so much for adding your feedback to this thread. We really appreciate it, and we certainly understand how frustrating it is to wait on a potential feature that would be incredibly helpful to your workflow.

I don't see an existing ticket for you to add your vote to the feature request for the ability to rotate objects within Freehand, so I'll go ahead and create a ticket for you now. Please keep an eye out for that email shortly. You don't need to respond to the email; it's simply to formally register to interest in this potential feature for our Product team to take into consideration and pass your feedback along.

If anybody else would like to add their feedback about this potential feature, please “ADD YOUR VOTE” using the button on the original post.

Thanks, Bill!

Best,

Hi I'm using the wireframes template and am perplexed that a simple "rotate" function wasn't considered an important feature to include for wireframing LOL

Joining the thread here, freehand rotate should be bumped up in the priorities in my opinion, or at least add the ability to draw sideways and right triangles to the shapes list.. only being able to do one kind of triangle seems kind of silly.

thanks!

as many have mentioned. this is a basic functionality. I am really surprised that a design platform doesn't support rotating an object!!

Hi Mohsen,

Thanks for adding your voice to this conversation about the ability to rotate objects in Freehand.

I can certainly understand the convenience of this potential feature, and the frustration at waiting for functionality to be added that you feel is key to your workflow. As discussed previously in this thread, this is something that is on our Product team's radar, and they are taking the interest for this into consideration as they plan for future updates to Freehand.

Please feel free to add your vote to this feature request by clicking the "Add your vote" button on the original post that we can formally register your interest in this.

We really appreciate your taking the time to reach out and offer your feedback. Thanks, Mohsen!

Best,
Raynor

Yes, please add a rotate feature, seems like a no-brainer.

If rotate was not an essential feature for the product team, Raynor maybe you can provide us with the rationale for its exclusion.  Maybe we're not using the tool as it is intended.

I too am confused at the lack of basic functionality (SHAPE ROTATION, SPLINE/PEN TOOLS, CONNECTOR MANIPULATION, CONNECTION JUMPS, LOCALIZED SHAPE SNAPPING, SHAPE TEXT COLOR OPTIONS, etc)?

It all became apparent to me when evaluating the supplied templates.  They are a collection of redundant stickers, requiring fragile manual arrangements to be completed to create something that only looks like a flow diagram.  It's not practical for use in an agile team setting where constant speedy refinement and alterations are needed.

But again, maybe we're using the tool wrong?  Or expecting it to do something it wasn't designed to do.

Not having this feature is the worst. I added my support to the OP & upvote this feature request a million times. What makes it worse is that this tool isn't even competitive with other on-the-market digital whiteboarding tools that have this feature as a no brainer. Do better, yall.

There's an oversaturated market of prototyping programs right now, and this is not helping you guys.

Seriously, your product team is "monitoring interest" for the ability to rotate elements in a visual design application? Are you serious?

How could any toolset possibly ship without something so vital? How do you even justify this to yourselves when you made the conscious decision to exclude this feature? How could you possibly hope to compete with XD, Figma, etc. with this kind of mindset?

One year later and still no rotation, the most basic feature ever. How can someone prototype efficiently if there's no rotation tool, IDK who's your product manager but seriously you should fire this incompetent. I'm not gonna comeback to your product.

My first time using the product today for a deadline in a few hours. Probably not the best decision to start with something new but I did. Really enjoyed it until I found myself looking for a horizontal scroll bar. I hoped I could just rotate the vertical one but, well, here I am. It's not the end of the world, I can copy it to paint and rotate it there. I can imagine it getting frustrating though - hope this gets a look at soon enough. Wish me luck for my deadline 🙃

I left a comment about this back in October. I just tried FigJam and I can rotate any drawn, pasted or pre-made object. I'm moving on to Figma.

I'm following Brett steps, FigJam has everything I miss in Freehand. Thanks for the advice!

Hiiiii This is serious, we are in the world where design is reaching new heights, and unable to rotate object or shapes create a boundary of limitation. I really love InVision but such things need to be taken into focus. I was just creating double diamond process for one of my case study and realised you can't have 45 degree text. Please bring this challenge as a priority to bring some freedom to elements. Even they like to dance on weekends 😅. I believe in InVision Freehand and their Free rotation of elements.

I obviously dont know what technologies you using, but Invision R&D can use javascript and add a simple dynmamic css transform rotate for any element.

Out of curiosity... how is it looking with the rotating shape feature? 😅 I think there's definitely a place in the market for a simplified but not totally clunky whiteboard tool (MS Whiteboard doesn't quite cut it yet, although the alt text feature is really great to see).
