Multiple Sketch Files Vs Foundation and Component Files

Hello! I'm having some issues in uploading more than 1 Sketch File to the new DSM. We set up separate sketch files for everything in Foundation and Components. Color, Type, Grids, Buttons, Banners etc all have separate sketch files, it's just easier for us to manage. That said when I go to upload for example the Type, Color, and Icons I can only see 1 managed libraries in the file uploader. One replaces the other and removes it from the documentation site. Made this Loom https://www.loom.com/share/77694a58f7e44122936125b0f1d06a51 Is it better to make 2 files one for Foundation and one for Components ??

Hi Kit,

Thanks for getting in touch here! I would think you should be able to add additional components to your DSM Library from different Sketch files. So that we can take a look into this for you, would you mind sharing the following details?

  • What operating system are you using? Please include the version (e.g. macOS 10.13.3).
  • What version of Sketch are you using?
  • What version of the New DSM plugin are you using? (Navigate to Craft Manager > Tools and hover over New DSM to view its version)

Thanks in advance!

Michael

I'm glad I found I found this because this currently how I have my files setup because having everything in 1 file is simply too much for Sketch. I have a gut feeling Invision dev / ux team are working to the assumption every designer uses 1 sketch file for everything which is kind of farcical.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear that you're also encountering this issue, but we'll be happy to help with this.

As per Michael's earlier post, could you please also provide the following information:

  • What operating system are you using? Please include the version (e.g. macOS 10.13.3).
  • What version of Sketch are you using?
  • What version of the New DSM plugin are you using? (Navigate to Craft Manager > Tools and hover over New DSM to view its version)

Additionally, are you able to confirm whether these multiple Sketch files were newly created each time, or were they duplicated from an original Sketch file in Finder each time?

Thanks, Alan!

Regards,
Raynor

Solved!

Sketch file all have separate Sketch IDs unless you copy/paste the file in finder to create a new one. We had been copy/pasting files to duplicate them, which also duplicates the Sketch ID. When uploading DSM the DSM just saw this as the same sketch file.

We use a template file for file consistency. We had to go back and Save as Duplicate (which make new sketch ID) and trash the old file.

Hope this helps.

One or many sketch files doesn’t really matter, we have 3 people working on this design system and you can be in the same sketch file at once so it made sense to break it into many files.
