I quite new to prototyping and was searching for an app. There were many suggestions to use InVision Studio. Now that I have worked with it for a while there are some, in my opinion, "basic" things I just cannot accomplish without huge amount of work, or am I missing something?

Here are just a few things that I wanted to test in my prototype but found it to be very hard.

  1. How do you toggle a list to show/hide more info?
  2. How do you open and close a dropdown menu?
  3. How do you open/close a dialog on click?
  4. How do you respond to keyboard input when you type in an input box or how do you even make a box typable?

The only solution I have come up with is to duplicate a complete artboard many times just to do 1-3 above and what if you have additional actions on the same page and multiple actions on the next page and what if I would like to add some elements afterwards on these pages?

I hope someone can shed some light here and help me understand how to do these things. I watch all the tutorial videos but could not find anything there.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lars,

This is Camille from InVision's Support team. Thanks for reaching out to us with this Studio question!

Unfortunately, Studio doesn't offer the ability to create overlays—apart from creating new artboards that include the screen's main content plus the overlay content—at the moment. I can definitely see how useful this functionality would be, though!

Adding an overlay functionality similar to how overlays work in InVision on the web does happen to be a potential feature that our Product team is tracking, however. They're monitoring interest in this and reviewing whether we should add such functionality to Studio.

Additionally, we don't yet support form field input in Studio at this time. I've let our Product team know that you're interested in these features, so they can factor your vote into their product strategy.

If you have any questions or need anything else, please let us know!
