Something went wrong when I publish prototype

Thanks for taking the time to reach out here in Community and for providing the screenshots you have above. Can I please have you confirm if you are logged in to Studio under your personal account or under your Team account? An easy way of determining this is looking at the top left of the Studio project selector modal.

Additionally, would it be possible for you to attempt to publish once more with Studio's dev console open to see if any errors are logging? To launch the Studio dev console for publishing, please use the following steps:

1. Select the Publish icon
2. In the pop-up Publish modal, select Control/CTRL + Option + i on your keyboard
3. You should see the Console tab selected, if not please ensure you are on the Console tab
4. When the Console tab is open, please select to publish the file
   • If you can please allow the file to fail publishing with the "Something went wrong" so any errors log in the Console
   • If you can please notate the date/time (including timezone), and provide a screenshot of the Studio Console

Finally, can I have you confirm if the "Something went wrong" error is occurring for every project you attempt to publish or is this only occurring with the file shown above?

I didn't find the way to open the console. I use windows with CTRL+ALT+i but doesn't work.

Here's the console screenshot. I initiated the sync @ 09:36 but it took 2 minutes to crash. Ended up crashing @ 09:38 GMT+1 Paris timezone.




I'm logged into my team account.

I found out my projects created on the web page are not showing into studio. I'm only able to sync from studio into a project created in studio.

I simplify the project name by removing the "-" to try and now it's uploading the screens but :
In studio, when I type into "Publish to invision"  the project name I have on the web page, it doesn't add the screens to the project but creates another project in the web page. My original project is on the right. 

The project on the left created thru studio doesn't have all the features on the web page as my other projects : 

I don't get it. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Hi Giancarlo,

Thanks for passing along that screenshot of the error message. As for opening Console, you will need to have the Publish modal open. However, prior to selecting to blue Publish button to publish the file to your InVision project, can you please select Control + Option + i on your keyboard to launch the dev tools for Studio. It will look similar to the below. With the developer tools open, if you can please ensure you are selected on the Console tab. 

Then if you can please select the blue Publish button to attempt to publish the file to your project. This will start the publishing process. If you can please allow for the project to fail publishing to allow any/all error to be logged in the Console tab, and then if you can please provide a screenshot of any errors that might been logged.

I'm having the same problem now. Did anyone found a solution for it?

It's interesting that It happens only with a specific project I'm working on now. It has over 100+ big screens.

I've tryied updating other small projects and it worked so the error has to do with the size of the file or with its complexity.

Can you please let me know how can I solve this issue?

Sorry to hear that you're both running into similar issues with publishing your Studio prototypes as well. In order to determine why this is happening, we will need to collect the same information as requested from others above. Can you please provide the following information?:

1. A screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview or other OS details.
2. The version of Studio that you're using.
3. Is this happening with all prototypes or just one in particular?

I can assure you that each of those who reported this issue above are actively working with our Support team to determine the source of their individual issues. In order to pinpoint the source of the issue, we need to gather additional details and test internally.

With all due respect I think this is something you should already taking care of.
You can do tests from your side using free downloadable heavy invision files. Not to say that this should have been part of your testing.

I've read your community posts and it seems that this error has to do with the complexity of the project.

Mine has 150+ screens - scrollable. Lots of interactions. It feels heavy when opening. Takes time to open document.
I don't have the same problem with older, simpler projects. Those still work.


I've attached below the details you requested. Hope you understand that we are in very bad position because of this error and we miss deadlines, projects are delayed, money are lost.
Lots of resources are also lost or put on hold. Clients are waiting.

I'm nervous about this situation and you asking us about the same issue your are investigating from january? Maybe it's time to act really serious and provide us real time informations about the progress.

Maybe your team would take our files and publish them on our behalf?

Otherwise just for testing I cannot provide the file without a signed NDA.
And even for that I would need to check with my manager and compliance. This will be an interesting carousel.

Do your team have any leads for this error? 
The post from January had not results posted. Do you have any leads after 3 months?

It's Mike here. I wanted to chime in and see if there's anything I can do to help. 

While we won't be able to publish your files on your behalf, I noticed you've been in contact with our Support Engineering team regarding this. However, I also noticed they provided a couple options that might get you past the error and was curious if the following suggestions they provided offered any relief. If you haven't already, can you please give these a try and let us know how it goes: 

1. Log out of Studio, then log back in.
2. Copy+paste your artboards from the affected Studio file into a new Studio file. Attempt to publish from the new Studio file. 
3. Re-name the Studio file. Attempt to publish the re-named new project. 

If these suggestions don't help, please let us know so we can get you in contact with out Support team again.

Hi Mike,

I've been in contact with support just to make them aware about this issue. They were already aware. 

They answered saying they added me to the main ticket as this is a problem affecting more than me and they will provide updates when will be the case. 

So nothing tangible for me. Probably I need to wait for a fix as all the others. The issue is that there are people talking about this problem starting with January. We are April now.

As per your recomandation, I've tryied 1,2 and 3. None solved the problem.

It's interesting that you seem to have no clue about how to solve it. The general messages is about how the enginnering team is working on this but don't provide any real informations.

Let me explain you why your actions are vital.

I told my stakeholders about this problem and I will have a call tomorrow with them explaining about this. They postponed the client presentation for after this meeting.
Should I tell me to wait for a week for you to solve this problem or should I just break the project and find alternatives? 
One month of work on my side. The project is about a Chatbot integration within a messenger app. The app is set to have delayed message from the bot so it feels real. I have 150+ screens, 4 journeys, lots of interactions for each. Even I move the project to other similar app I will anyway lose lots of work and I will underdeliver.

I will stop posting and just wait for you to fix your software. From my side it looks very clear. It crashes when handling very big and complex projects. And I think you are aware of that.

The real problem is that I have more complex projects in progress and now I'm thinking how to handle those as it's becoming more obvious you'll not solve this very soon as you don't really know how.
The idea of logout-login is very close to old support saying to reboot the computer. It's bad.
I've already said in my posts that I have no problem with previous, smaller size projects and less complex, so there's nothing about the connection, rights, etc.

You need to try to understand that your are talking to professionals who tend to have a better understanding than regular people and maybe try to really solve this issues without just providing repeated informations. I think everyone checked all these before even posting. Read old posts.

The problem that I see now is that I think your software is becoming unreliable for big projects. But how can anyone know if a project will grow bigger or not? So this leads to an overwall unreliable software.

Please add me to a support ticket and please let us know more than nice words as this is affecting our projects, tasks and jobs.

I'm a Product Manager on the Studio team and I wanted to touch base about this issue you're experiencing. Thank you for working with our Community and Support teams to provide extensive feedback on this issue. We're grateful for the candid feedback that you and other users provided.

We reviewed this issue together today, and we know it's impacting your work. My team is carving out time with our Engineers to investigate and resolve what's causing these error messages, but we can't provide a concrete date for a solution yet. We will post on this thread again as soon as we have an update.

Hello Support Team,

Same problem again. I am very said to see that no real support on this issue. I have started two new projects with this software but same thing happens. Signing out, copying to new files and so on.... does not help at all.

Please give us with some feedback.

I am considering to leave this software after investing so many hours to learn it and work on few projects. Simply cannot present to colleagues or client (without publish feature) just makes it useless.

I am really sad and bitter.
