Getting your Studio prototypes in a shareable format.

What tools do you use to get a video out of your studio prototype? I am really looking for means to get this done, most prototype are meant not just for review but also for social sharing.

Hey Ekemini,

Unfortunately I don't think you can export video directly from studio for now, what you can try to do is to use a screen recording software as a workaround.

Hopefully the video/gif export option will be added to Studio soon.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hey Ekemini,

This is a great question! At this time, it is not possible to export Studio prototypes in a shareable video format. However, we have found that many users are recording their prototypes by using the screen recording option in Quicktime. We are also currently tracking interest for the following feature requests that may suit your needs:

  1. The ability to export GIF files from Studio
  2. The ability to record navigating through prototype animations in Studio Preview

Please let me know which feature(s) you are most interested in, and I would be happy to add your feedback to the appropriate feature request(s).

Look forward to hearing back,

Shaina

Hi Ekemini

From what I understand you want to create video snippets of your prototype right? Sadly as others have said above there isnt the capability to do this in Studio yet, but there is a work around for now!

This is what I did:

  1. Preview your prototype using the play triangle button on the top right of Studio. This will allow you to keep any animations/interactions you have made.
  2. Use Quicktime Player to record your screen.
  3. Save out that video some where as a mp4 or any video file.
  4. Create a new project in iMovie and import your video.
  5. In here you can crop the length of your video to remove things like you navigating the screen etc.
  6. In iMovie you can also crop the physical size of the video so it fits the size of your screen or the boundaries of the prototype preview, which removes all the clutter that you don't need. You can see how to crop on iMovie here
  7. Then save out your video in the format you need.

Any Questions let me know, hope this helps!

Thanks

Owen
