Going back to previous screen

I’m building an Overview page of sorts. Within this screen is a section titles Files. You can view all files which would take you to the Files screen. When I tap Back however it always takes me back to the top of the Overview screen. Ideally it would take me back to where I left off. Is there a way to do this in InVision?

Hi Clay,

Thanks for reaching out here in Community for some advice on the best way to achieve this in your prototype! So that we can get a better idea of what you're trying to achieve here, can you please provide a couple extra pieces of information?:

  1. What InVision product(s) are you using (ie. Studio, Sketch and Craft)?
  2. Can you please provide a screencast or screenshot(s) showing how you're currently trying to build this out?
  3. Are you able to provide an example of the type of page you're trying to build?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

  • Sketch Version 59.1 (86144)
  • Craft Version 1.0.89
  • InVision

Here's a link to my prototype… https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UkdJ0WoG1aAQkrYAk2E0YCcJlLY5YnZN/view

Essentially, it would be ideal if the prototype could remember the position I was at on the previous page. So I wouldn't have to continuously scroll back down to where I just was.

Regarding an example of the page here's another video of the functionality. You can see that when I'm on the overview for Josh I can select to View All of certain type of content. The thing I'm trying to build out is for the prototype to know where I was at on Josh's overview page so I don't have to continuously scroll back down the page to get to where I just was at. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1j-iqywVEdv6Tar1DmBNydVrUVvIA5MMS

Thanks for your help! I tried making the screen an overlay like previously suggested but that didn't do anything. The prototype is SalesView - 414×896.

Hi Clay,

Thanks so much for following up with those details! I noticed that you also followed up with our Support team about this desired functionality.

As mentioned by your Support agent, there isn't a way to remember the original scroll position when returning to that screen. However, we are tracking a feature request for this and we've formally tracked your feedback for this potential feature.

In the meantime, you could consider opening the 'All files' screen as an overlay. Upon closing the overlay, the scroll position would be preserved.

Hope this helps!

Shaina

Hey there, so that work around works when viewing the mobile prototype in the browser but it doesn't work when you are viewing the prototype on an actual device through the app. Why is that? Am I missing something? Thx!

Here's an example of Overlays not remembering where I was last at on the page. This is on my iPhone 11 Pro Max using the InVision app. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1XO9ETTvFfIUgdbVkkDO0c3XayGzX8_a6

When I view this prototype within the browser it works fine as it remembers where I last was. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aYGWwPuNupAY3JyC7S-qOcq3mnzXhkty/view

Hi Clay,

Sorry to hear that you're continuing to run into some issues with this. However, I'm glad to see that this is working in your mobile browser.

Thanks for taking the time to record those screencasts! To figure out what might be causing this issue in the mobile app, can you please provide the version of the mobile app that you're running?

I have also made your Support agent aware of your comments here. They may be reaching out in your ticket as well to continue troubleshooting.

Thanks for following up,

Shaina

I have a some problem. It would be really nice to go back from where I left. As it works now it ruins testing flow and experience :/

Hi Miloš,

So sorry to hear that you're also running into these issues. To get a better idea of exactly what you're encountering, can you please provide some additional information?:

  1. What version of Sketch are you using?
  2. What version of Craft Manager are you running?
  3. Are you able to provide a screencast or screenshot(s)?

Additionally, as mentioned above, there isn't a way to remember the original scroll position when returning to that screen. However, we are tracking a feature request for this and we've formally tracked your feedback for this potential feature. Would you like me to open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest for this?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hey Shaina Torgerson. Sketch and Craft version have nothing to do with this :) I am using Sketch v61 and Craft 1.0.90.

So the only problem I have is not being able to go back to the original scroll position.

Scenario: I scroll down to the bottom of "A" screen. I tap on link to screen "B". On screen "B" when I tap back it takes me to the top of screen "A", instead of the bottom. So, like you said it doesn't remember scroll position of the previous visited screen.

Thank you.

Hi Miloš,

Thanks for your response. To help us with our investigation of what you're running into, we really do need these details in order to move forward toward a solution:

  1. Are you able to provide a screencast or screenshot(s)?
  2. Additionally, can you provide a screenshot of the settings that you have in place for this?

In this case, I'd like to open a ticket with our Support agents on your behalf so that we can get to the bottom of this with you and troubleshoot internally. Please keep an eye out for an email from one of our Support agents soon.

Apologies for any trouble in the meantime!

Best,

Ella
