Can't install Craft with Photoshop 2020

After upgrading to Photoshop 2020 and attempting to install the Craft plugin I get the following error:

  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 1903 (18362.449)
  • Photoshop 2020 (21.0)
  • Plugin: Craft 2.0.71

Is there an option to manually install the plugin?

Hi Alexander,

We are seeing similar reports from some users experiencing that same "There’s been an error starting Photoshop generator." error after upgrading to Photoshop CC 2020 v21.0.0. After updating Photoshop, Craft Sync is unable to sync, notifying that Generator needs to be enabled when it already is.

We've found that all Photoshop plugins must be manually deleted and then reinstalled before the sync will complete without error. I'm going to help you through that and get you back up and running!:
  1. Quit Photoshop completely

  2. Download the Craft plugins for Photoshop.

  3. Unzip then file folders should appear.

  4. Navigate to  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2020\Plug-ins\Generator

  5. Paste the folder copied com.invisionlabs.sync-generator and com.invisionlabs.freehand-generator folders there

After this, please re-open Photoshop and attempt to sync -- let me know if it works once again,

Shaina

I had the same "There’s been an error starting Photoshop generator." message ever since I installed latest Photoshop version (21.01), so I followed the instructions in another thread to uninstall craft plugin and then reinstall it. Unfortunatelly, I can't install it because I'm getting "Please install the latest Adobe Photoshop version before running the installer" error. I followed the instructions in this thread, but it seems there is still no sync plugin installed, or at least I don't see it where it was before after I open Photoshop. Can you please help me further?

Before this thread gets out of hand: The initial issue is NOT with the Photoshop generator not working. That one can be fixed with above mentioned steps (@Shaina).

The issue of this post is, that the plugin itself can't even be installed. This is very likely due to a compatibility check of the installer, which itself hasn't been updated since v2.0.71 (2018-10-16).

This needs to be addressed by Invisions development team, since it's an current issue, as @

Hi There, I am having the same problem on Windows 10.

I've updated to the latest photoshop version which is when this problem arose.

I uninstalled the old plugin as it wouldnt sync, now I can't even install the plugin at all, I've tried the fix above with adding the folders manually to the generator folder (which appears to be a separate issue)..

@paul I asked the same question to my "personal" support ticket (ID: 616580) on November 21st and got basically the same answer:

"I appreciate you following up on this, unfortunately we don't have any updates that we're able to share at this time, however I can say that this is being treated as a high priority bug - so our developers are actively working on it. I'll reach back out again once we have an update that we can share."

Thanks so much for the update smokeylemon. I also got in touch with them today, but I'm still waiting for an answer - I will post here if I find anything new. Btw, did they give you any ETA for the fix?

P.S Thank you Alexander - just saw your message

Thanks for the update as well guys.

No I didn't get an ETA for the fix, it's really annoying for me, I'm having to get my colleagues to open up my psd's to sync them with invision everytime I make a change :(

Hi to everyone! I know this is not the 'final' solution, but it might work for some of you.

  • Quit Photoshop completely

  • Download the Craft plugins for Photoshop.

  • Unzip the downloaded file and the a list of file folders should appear.

  • Navigate to  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2020\Plug-ins\Generator

  • Paste these folders from the unzipped structure in step 3 com.invisionlabs.sync-generator and com.invisionlabs.freehand-generator to the path in step 4

  • Navigate to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\extensions

  • Paste these folders from the unzipped structure in step 3 com.invisionlabs.sync and com.invisionlabs.freehand to the path in step 6

  • Re-open Photoshop

  • From the 'Windows'->'Extensions' menu note that 'Sync' and 'Freehand' are available

  • Test to confirm that the plugins work as expected

Thanks Paul, your solution worked for me!

I didn't have CEP folder in my %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe, but I created it manually, as well as extensions folder inside and I followed all the steps you provided. Now I can sync files back again :)

Shaina Torgerson thanks for the update and a real solution in the end.

I can confirm the CraftInstaller.exe (2.0.83) is working with Photoshop 2020 (21.0.3).

It took a while but finally no more workarounds to install the plugin and get it to work. Also thanks to Paul Adrian for providing a workaround for the reported issue in the first place.
