Trouble Using Craft with Sketch Libraries

Our team recently started using Sketch libraries to manage our symbols. In this process, we noticed that all the Craft links we placed on symbols no longer worked, which I suppose makes sense now that the components live in a separate document. Is there any way to use Craft in conjunction with Sketch libraries?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in Community. So that I'm understand exactly what you're looking for, can you please let me know which of the following you're trying to achieve?:

  1. Create Craft hotspots from your symbols in your Sketch Library
    - If you are simply trying to create Craft hotspots from your symbols in your Sketch Library, you can do so by following the instructions here

  2. Retain Sketch Library links when using DSM (a Craft plugin)
    - We are currently tracking a feature request for this. If this is what you're looking for, please let me know and I would be happy to open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hi Shaina,

Our team found a little hack to solve this problem. Because a Sketch Library is a linked external file that's separate from the main Sketch file, Craft's hotspots don't work (seeing as you can't link hotspots between files). We ended up creating Invision-specific symbols (that lived in the original Sketch file and not the library) using transparent layers, which we then overlaid on top of the actual UI.

Not the most elegant solution, but it's working for the time being. If I'm missing something, and there's a more straightforward solution, do let us know.

Cheers,

Jeff

Thanks for following up, Jeff. I'm happy to hear that you and your team are able to use the workaround you mentioned above.

At this time, what you've described ins the best solution. However, we are tracking interest for the ability to create link templates with Craft Prototype which would help make this process a simpler for you.

I will open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest for this. Please look out for an email confirming that we've formally tracked your need for this potential feature.

If there's anything else I can help out with, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Have a great day,

Shaina
