Setting up button interactions using Build Mode

I am learning Studio. Currently using Trial, which allows one prototype. I'm building components either in PhotoShop or directly in Invision (no Invision Cloud).

I am simulating a 'File Upload Dialogue' on a screen.
A button click opens the dialogue window to files on the user's drive.
In the dialogue, the Open button should appear disabled until a file has been chosen.

When a file is chosen, the file icon should highlight, and then the Open button should be enabled.

I can't seem to do anything with interactions except go to other screens. Is there a way of creating an interaction that just changes the properties of a button on the screen?

My research suggests there should be a Build Mode button that I can use to add simulated popups, etc.
but other articles suggest I won't always see this button under certain circumstances.

What am I missing?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for reaching out. To clarify, the article you linked to does not apply to Studio prototypes. That being said, Build Mode doesn't work with Studio prototypes as you are able to apply interactivity directly in Studio. To learn more about adding interactivity to your Studio prototype, check out this Studio article: Managing Interactions

Once you have reviewed the article above, please let me know if you have any follow up questions. Happy to help!

Best,

Shaina

Thank you for responding. I've read the article, but it seems to deal only with transitioning to other screens. I want to be able to show control interactivity on a given screen -
Examples:

  • The 'Delete' button opens a confirmation popup that has Yes/No buttons.
  • The 'Open file' button is disabled until an item is chosen from a list.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for following up, and I appreciate you taking the time to read that article. Unfortunately, the button interactions that you have described are not currently available. However, we are currently tracking interest for a feature request that would allow you to create this type of interaction.

I will open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest for this. Please keep an eye open for an email shortly, confirming that we've formally tracked your feedback.

Thanks again for reaching out,

Shaina
