Hi,
I am building a prototype via inVision Studio in 1920x1080 and want to view this prototype on my Samsung Tab a via the inVision app. But the app shows me the prototype only in portrait mode, even if I lock the tablet orientation to landscape mode.
Is there no way to show the prototype in the right orientation on a tablet?
Thanks

UPDATE
I'm happy to report that our engineers have pushed out a fix for the issue discussed in this thread where the entire iOS InVision App didn't auto-rotate on the iPad. This fix should solve the issues reported by many here with landscape mode on the iPad. Please note that the login screen will only display in portrait mode. To ensure that you have received this fix, please update your version of the iOS app to version 2.10.2.
Again, we apologize for the troubles that this has caused. Please let us know if you continue to have issues, or if there's anything else we can help out with!
Hi Colin,
Sorry to hear that you're running into issues with previewing your prototype on your tablet. So that I can get a better idea of what's going on, can you please provide some additional information?:
Look forward to hearing from you,
Shaina
1. Version: 2.6.8.178
2. On my pc:
On my tablet:
3. Version: 1.19.0
4. Samsung Tab a10.1" 2019 Android Version 9
I assume I am missing something super simple...
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for providing those details, Colin! This appears as if it may be related to a known issue that our Support and Engineering teams are currently investigating.
That being said, I would like for our Support team to take a closer look at this for you and will open a ticket on your behalf. Please keep an eye out for an email soon from one of our Support agents.
Thanks for hanging in there,
Shaina
Same Problem on iOS. We are updating yesterday to the lastest Version for iOS. Now the Landscape Mode is gone. The hole app runs only in portrait mode.
Real testing is not longer possible! :(
Hi Florian,
I apologize for the frustration that this issue is causing for you. As requested from Colin above, can you please also provide some additional information?:
Look forward to hearing from you,
Shaina
I'm using screens from sketch and encoutnering the same issue. I can't test.
Hi Sophia,
So sorry for the frustration that this issue must be causing for you. In order to determine what's causing this, can you also please provide the information requested above?:
Look forward to hearing from you,
Shaina
This is really annoying. It's plain simple. The InVision app does not support landscape on iOS anymore.

Newest inVision app.
I have the same issue. We are preparing for usertests on Thursday and I just found out that in Invision tablet app, landscape mode is not working and in the browser, landscape mode is working but the hotspots are not working, seems to be a bug both on Chrome as Safari. My colleague sees the iPad in browser view.
Would be great if you could take a look into this and reply soon since we otherwise need to look into other solutions and do all the work again and postpone our user research :(
Hi Nicolas and Sirvan,
So sorry to see that you both are encountering this frustrating issue. Thanks for taking the time to provide all the requested details as added information for our Support and Engineering teams to investigate.
I will open tickets on each of your behalf including the details you've provided. Our Support team will be taking a look and reaching out shortly with some follow up questions. Please look out for an email from one of our Support agents soon.
Best,
Shaina
If anyone else is experiencing this issue, please contact our Support team directly here including the following details:
Unfortunately this issue is still ongoing.. When it will be fixed? Please let me know when it starts working again, otherwise I'll need to find different tool for the research!
Hey Magdalena,
Thank you for including all of that information, and I'm so sorry for the frustration here! I opened a ticket with Support on your behalf, so keep a lookout for an email from them soon.

This is indeed frustrating and disappointing. Not being aware of the bug reported in this post, I spent a couple of weeks creating user testable UI mocks. I was quite happy (rather impressed) while working on it and viewing the progress in my laptop's browser. We are about to run the user study next week, and I tried it on iPads about a week ago only to learn this landscape mode problem. As a workaround, we thought about using a web browser in iPad using the "share" link, however, the quality of the iPad browser experience (regardless whether it is Safari, Chrome, or FireFox) as "user testing" environment is impossible. It refreshes the page in the middle out of blue sometimes, crashes if someone zooms in, etc., etc.
If the usability testing went well, our team could have upgraded to the paid tier to expand the usage of InVision. Moreover, because we are doing this testing with our customer, if it impressed them, they would have used InVision for their future design projects as well. But, with this kind of extremely slow turnaround (nearly 2 months and portrait/landscape issue cannot be fixed?) for seemingly simple bug without proper progress communication is not acceptable for us (and our customer) to consider InVision as a reliable future design tool provider.
Invision should reconsider its priorities. Better a little less marketing, but faster bugfixing, clear feature roadmaps and cleanly maintained release notes. This is the only way to make things happen in the enterprise environment.
Hey Florian and Hyong, as well as everyone who has posted on this thread,
I raised this issue again with the Product Manager this morning, and the team is working urgently to fix this issue. We’ve got a build of the iOS app that should fix this issue but it’s currently in testing to ensure that it solves all of the scenarios where this issue can occur and also to ensure that it doesn’t introduce any additional issues. We definitely consider this a high priority problem and we’re working hard to get a fix out as soon as possible. We’ll be sure to let you all know once this is resolved.
Thanks for hanging in there. I understand the frustration everyone is experiencing, and have raised it in multiple groups within InVision!

Hello again!
It looks like the new version of the app was released! Updating to the new version should solve out this landscape mode issue.
If anyone continues to experience this issue after updating to the new app, please contact our Support team directly here for the speediest resolution.
Thanks!
Beth
Beth,
thank you for keeping us updated! I tried the latest version from Apple App Store, but unfortunately the issue was still there. I even restarted the iPad, uninstalled and reinstalled, locked the iPad into landscape mode, but my prototype still showed in portrait mode in InVision app. Also, I am not sure if this was a pre-existing condition, but the app is extremely unstable. It keeps refreshing the screen during user test mode so frequently that I can't navigate more than 2 - 3 pages. Per your suggestion, I followed the support request link you provided and submitted my request. Hopefully this issue (and also the unstable user experience) can be fixed by the next update.
Regards,
Hyong
Hi Hyong,
I'm so sorry for the delayed response! And also for the confusion here. The release of 2.8.6 now respects the defined orientation, but still doesn't rotate between landscape and portrait. You can now specify "Landscape" as your project type if it's a mobile prototype. The Mobile team has been made aware of this limitation. Again, I'm so sorry for the delay in my response and that you're still experiencing issues related to the initial bug here. I went ahead and raised this thread with the Mobile team, so they're aware of the conversation here.
Beth
Same thing is still happening. The iOS app is only running in portrait mode.
iOS App Version: 2.8.3 (601)
iPad Pro (11-inch)
iOS 12.3.1
Hello Beth,
What does "[...] 2.8.6 now respects the defined orientation, but doesn't rotate [...]"?
If the InVision app doesn't rotate prototypes according to the specified rotation in InVision, then it doesn't sound like it is respecting anything. Are you talking about something that is unrelated to the question in this support thread?
What "Landscape" specification are you referring to in InVision Studio? (Adding screenshot, referring to a help document or adding a more clear description about what you are referring to could provide clarity)
Is there a timeline/update from the mobile team by when they are fixing this bug?
Have a great day,
Roland
Beth,
Even with my project being defined as "iPad landscape", it does not switch to landscape on an actual iPad.
Hi Jacob,
Thanks so much for clarifying what's happening on your end. The issue that you have described should now be fixed in the latest version of the iOS app.
I noticed that you are currently on version 2.8.3, and the version that has just been released with this fix is 2.8.6. Can you please try updating to the latest version of InVision iOS App, and let me know if you're still experiencing this issue?
Look forward to hearing from you,
Shaina
Hi Roland,
To clarify, Beth's update on the fix in 2.8.6 of the InVision iOS app is specific to the orientation described above for non-Studio prototypes. In the InVision Cloud, you can set the orientation of non-Studio prototypes when choosing your Project Type as shown below:
Are you experiencing issues with viewing your Studio prototype in the iOS app at this time? If so, can you please provide a screenshot displaying the issue?
Look forward to hearing from you,
Shaina
Shaina,
thank you for the clarification! My project is indeed created from InVision Studio. Is there anyway I can turn my Studio version prototype into non-Studio version? I am surprised that a prototype created from Studio is handled differently than the one created in the Web interface, but anyhow, if I can convert(?) my Studio prototype into non-Studio to fix the issue, I would gladly do so.
Regards,
Hyong
Hi Hyong,
Thanks for keeping up on this thread and following up regarding your situation. I have notified your Support agent of your most recent comment here. She is looking into this for you and doing some additional testing.
I apologize for not being able to provide more information here at this time. The issue requires some further troubleshooting by our Support team and they will be in touch shortly.
Thanks for hanging in there,
Shaina
Hi Sahina,
I looks like now we opposite problem. I have installed and update for iOS (iPad Pro) so now I use Invision v. 2.8.6 (621) and all my project are in landscape orientation... event those I meant to have in portrait orientation...
I have changed orientation as you shown in post above form 3rd Sep 2019 but it still doesn't work.
Regards
Przemek
Hi Przemek,
Sorry to hear that you're running into issues still with the orientation on your project. Are you able to provide some screenshots showing the issue and the settings that you've selected?
Thanks in advance,
Shaina
So, is there no option in the prototype mode, when on the web, to create the prototype in Landscape mode? There are no options to create a prototype in landscape mode.
Hi Bobby,
To be able to change your prototype type (desktop, mobile, tablet, or wearables) and orientation, please try the steps below:
If, for some reason, you're not seeing this option in the InVision Cloud, please provide a screenshot displaying what you're seeing.
Hope this helps!
Shaina
