Hotspot templates not working?

Howdy,

I've applied a hotspot, and it waaas working correctly. but now it is only working on some screens and not on others, even though they are applied to all of them. If it helps, i'm using the latest version of the craft sync plugin from Sketch, and i'm a free user on invisionCloud.

I even tried removing a screen, reuploading it, and applying the template, but it didn't work.

I could just delete the hotspot and try it all again, but i'd like to know if i'm doing something wrong.

Here is a screencast: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1plH7xTrvqklZiAnp63AUpTf3OTQ9N6xx/view

Hi Kyle,

Sorry to hear that you're running into this issue with your hotspot templated and hiding overlays as screens mentioned in your other post.  I appreciate you taking the time to provide screencasts and a link to your project.

At this point, I would like our Support team to take a closer look at this for you. They will be able to do some deeper troubleshooting with your file to discover the source of each issue that you've reported.

I will open a ticket on your behalf including all of the details you have in both posts. Please keep an eye out for an email from one of our Support agents soon.

Thanks for your patience,

Shaina

Thankyou.

If it helps anyone else reading this, couple things that help. 1. Restart sketch and that fixes screens not uploading correctly, and 2 - for this issue, I ended up just deleting the hotspot and doing it all over again to make it work, BUT the issue happens when you apply a fixed header. Having a fixed header that encumbers a hotspot template messes things up, so play with that.

Have a great day,

Hi Kyle,

Thank you for sharing your findings.  I have been experiencing the exact same issue with hotspot templates for months, painfully deleting the templates and starting over, only for the issue to intermittently occur again thereafter.

It is interesting that you specifically reference the likely cause of the issue being with the use of a fixed header, as this is where I am also running into issues with hotspot templates disappearing from the screens they are applied to, on my mobile designs.  The checkbox remains ticked though, suggesting the hotspot template is still applied, even though it is not visible on the design itself.

Removing the fixed header isn't an option so it would be good to understand if you have found a way to overcome this hindrance?  Likewise, InVision Support, have your Devs found a permanent fix for this?

Cheers,

Joe

Hey Joe,

We'll need to actually work with the file/prototype to ensure this isn’t a bug, but it sounds like template/hotspots are breaking by changing a single hotspot associated with the template. I'll open a ticket on your behalf so we can dig in to this. Keep your eyed peeled for a response from the Support team.

I'm creating a header a mobile design and it moves each of 4 hotspots to completely different positions on every screen it's applied to. Same with the footer templates. SO FRUSTRATING and a HUGE time waster. Renders the "template" useless and has caused me to spend HOURS trying to fix. Deleting templates and starting over... deleting screens and starting over. Has there been any fix?

I feel your pain, Susan. Aside from the hotspot template issues outlined above (that Kyle first reported), which InVision Support are actively investigating, I have also recently noticed the random repositioning of hotspot templates too.

In my case, I have only seen this start to happen very recently, and it is rare that it happens, but is still extremely frustrating when it does. Now you've also mentioned it, I will keep a note of what I do immediately before it happens again.

Out of interest, regarding the hotspot templates you're witnessing this issue with, are they first positioned in a fixed header or footer of your mobile prototype, before the repositioning issue occurs? That's where the issue seems to occur for me.

Hi Joe,

I figured it out, for my issue anyway. Some screens were set to export from Sketch at 1x, some at 500w and most, appropriately at 2x and so the hot spots were moved/distorted due to the varying resolutions of the images.

Also, regarding the header and footer hotspots, I figured out that the hotspot cannot cross the line where you are placing your fixed header or footer, or the hotspot(s) that intersects with it (even by 1 pixel) simply won't work. So make sure the hotspots are slightly above the header line and slightly below the footer line.

I figured those things out but am having other weird random occurrences that are huge time wasters :( .

Hope this helps you a bit!

Hi Susan,

Thank you for sharing this insight - it is most helpful!

Regarding the random repositioning of hotspots, I also export my screen designs from Figma at both 1x and 2x, so it could well be that I have inadvertently uploaded a screen at the wrong resolution, compared to all others featured in my mobile prototype. Great spot!

As far as the issue originally raised with hotspot templates randomly disappearing when used in the fixed header of my mobile prototype, I can confirm that the bounding edges (of the hotspot templates) are nowhere near where the line is placed indicating the bottom of the fixed header. I have however fallen foul to hotspots marginally intersecting the fixed header line before though, which took a while to fathom out when I realised the hotspots were not working as intended.

Again, thank you for sharing your findings. I am sure they will help others who stumble across this post too! :)

Joe
