Hi Matt,

Are you referring to your Sketch text style names?  At the moment, it's not possible to view the name of a Sketch style in Inspect. However, this is something that our Product team is currently tracking interest for.

If this is what you're referring to, please let me know and I would be happy to open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest.

Look forward to hearing back,

Shaina

@shaina

This is a very crucial aspect of how our engineering teams consume our designs and ensure the text elements align to our defined text style names within our libraries. Due to the lack of this feature, we are using a competitor of yours that actually does support carrying over Sketch Text Style names. We will be evaluating our tool suite soon and this is a key feature that is a must-have for our organization.

I strongly second what Patrick Hansen mentioned above. Our product teams at P&G are utilizing Invision's Inspect because we are paying for Invision Enterprise. I have mentioned this lacking feature to our client manager many times and haven't seen a change to implement this feature, a simple Sketch API call to reveal the Text Styles  AND Layer Styles, which competitors like Zeplin have had available for years. This addition alone would save our designers and engineers hours of headaches and miscommunication and make our efforts in creating design systems to maintain consistency and improve design <> dev communication even worth it. Our current arduous work around is to rename every layer in our design to reflect any Text or Layer Styles present isn't scalable and a huge waste of the designers time, when they have already spent the time to implement a system of styles.

I wonder if the reason for Invision to not add these native Sketch integrations into Invision Inspect is to push users to use the Invision DSM, which its styles are supported in Inspect. All native Sketch features should be supported and allow users to choose their method of systemizing their design.

I really hope Invision makes the effort to add simple, useful integrations like this to stay up to speed with Sketch or risk loosing clients for alternative more integrated.

Hi Joey,

We really appreciate the time you've taken to provide such detailed feedback on this issue! We agree that all of these improvements are equally important and would help save time for your entire team.

The Engineering team is aware of the issue but we prioritize issues based on the scope and impact of the issue. For that reason, we don’t have an ETA for a fix to share at this time. However, this is an issue that I will be raising in the soonest Product meetings.

I also noticed that you have opened a ticket with our Support team providing some more related feedback. I have added your notes from here in Community to your open ticket with Support.  Somebody from our team will be reaching out on your ticket as soon as they have a chance to review.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help out with, or if there's any other feedback you'd like me to share with our Product Managers on this topic.

Have a wonderful day,

Shaina

Hi! we're having the same issue inspecting instances and text styles inside symbols, is there any way to resolve it or is still something that the Invision team is working on?

Hi Propelland! I have asked an InVision employee to check on this and provide you with an update. Are you interested in adding your vote to this feature?

Showing Text Styles from Sketch is already a feature - it was introduced to v6 cloud a couple of months ago. (I believe it was in v7 for some time).

The Problem

Regarding the "bug" noted here about a Text Document Style NOT showing up in Inspect mode on some Text instances:

Possible cause

  • I have been able to replicate it on my end and it appears the bug is associated with a Text object that may have a Sketch Document Style associated with it, but if there was an attribute modification to the Style that was not updated and applied to the original Document Style (.i.e. alignment, color, etc.), then it does not display in Invision Inspect Mode.

(you can tell if a Text Style has been modified if the Text Document style name has an asterisk "*" next to it)

The potential fix:

  • Make sure that all Text objects in Sketch do not have any modifications and if any modifications were applied, then update the Text Style with the new modifications and/or create a new Text Style - even if it is for just an alignment variation.
  • - OR -
  • Invision Inspect mode can support all applied Text Styles even if they may have modifications applied in the artboard, but not updated to the actual style.

Hey Patrick,

It's Mike from InVision here. Thank you so much for the detailed response and great insights on this issue.

I'm terribly sorry to hear you're having these issues and to ensure we're all on the same page, I think it would be best to get a visual of the Text Styles your having troubles with. With that being said, can you please provide the following details:

  1. Could you provide a screenshot showing this Text Style in Sketch and Inspect?
  2. Can you send another screenshot showing this same Text Style in Inspect after making adjustments in Sketch?
  3. Can you explain your workflow on how your syncing and editing these Text Styles?

Once we have these details, we will be better suited to dive deeper into this investigation together.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out, I'm here to help any way I can.

Looking forward to hearing back!

All the best,

Mike

I'm was not the one who posted about the issue originally. I was just testing it on my side and providing my findings.

Thank you for getting back to me though. I would suggest connecting with the original post.

Gotcha! Thanks so much for taking the time to report your own findings here in hopes that it will help other users.

I understand that you aren't looking for support on this issue at this time. However, if you would like assistance in the future, or for our Product and Engineering teams to review these details to factor into their investigation on this issue, please let us know.

We're happy to open a ticket on your behalf in order to formally track the info you've provided here.

Thanks again for chiming in. It's very much appreciated!
