Export quality of jpeg

I am currently working on a project where I have a number of large background images that I make exportable in Sketch and then have the developer download via Invison. I can see that there are a number of settings 1x 2x etc for image export. I cannot however see how I may set the jpeg compression of the image. I have done a number of tests and when I download the image from Invision it is much larger in size than if I had just used Photoshop for export and passed the image to the developer.

Is there anyway to reduce the image size?

Welcome to the community, Peter!

I want to make sure I first understand fully what's going on with your export. So your image in Sketch is set to 1x and 2x, but when the developer downloads the image from InVision they get it at 3x. Is this correct? And when you say reduce the image, do you mean to keep it at the original 1x and 2x, is this correct?

Look forward to hearing back and helping out!

Hi Lala,

Thanks for your response. I't actually the compression of the jpeg. The image that I want to export is for a full width banner. The pixel dimensions are 2000px x 1300px. When I download the image from Invision the size is 1.5mb. If I export from Photoshop with a 60% quality I can reduce the size to 190.6kb which is significant.

I have attempted to compress the image in Photoshop first and then use in Sketch and upload to Invison. The result being 792kb still smaller than the original 1.5mb but still significantly larger than the direct export from Photoshop.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for replying to Lala with those details. So that we can better understand what might be causing this, can you please provide the following information?:

     1. A screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview
     2. The versions of Sketch and Photoshop that you're using
     3. A screenshot or screencast displaying the issues you're encountering with downloading the image
     4. The version of Craft Manager that you're running
     5. The version of the Craft Sync + Prototype plugin that you're running

To check the current production version numbers and for help updating or finding the Craft tool versions you have installed, please read this guide.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Hello Shaina,

Thanks for the reply. To answer your questions:

  • Sketch 54.1
  • Photoshop 20.0.4
  • Craft Manager 1.0.79(144)
  • Craft Sync + Prototype 2.3.126
  • The above screenshot was the Invision download - the other downloads are the same except for the JPEG image - size - which is outlined above.
