Invision not honouring slices with "Export group contents only" in Sketch Library - getting a white background where it should be transparent

As per title, i've set up an icon set with each symbol containing a group, with the shape and a slice set to "Export group contents only" inside. This works fine when exporting icons directly from Sketch, but when I use an icon symbol from my library in a new document, the transparency isn't being honoured when I push to Invision via Craft. Icons now have a white background.

Hi Cail and Joana,

As you've been told by our Support team, what you're encountering is a known limitation that our Product and Engineering teams have evaluated based on factors including severity, impact, scale, and frequency. However, we will continue to track this issue and monitor the prevalence and severity of this issue, and we will revisit that decision if the circumstances change. That being said, I have notified each of your Support agents of your follow up comments here in Community and I will continue to do so. Your Support agents will continue to keep you in the loop with any updates around this issue as we have them.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. I apologize for any frustration that this has caused for you thus far.

I'm having the same result. White background where it should be transparent on screen uploaded from last Thursday on.
Screens that were updated before Thursday appeared with transparent background.
Noted that I have not touch the icons on my library.
I'll be waiting for your feedback

Hi Cail and Joana,

Thank you for reaching out here in Community about the issues you're encountering with the "export group contents only" option. This appears as if it may related to an issue that our Support and Engineering teams are currently investigating. In order to determine if this is related can you each please provide the following information?:

     1. What operating system are you using? Please include the version (e.g. macOS 10.13.3 or Windows 10).
     2. What version of Sketch are you using?
     3. What version of the Craft plugins are you using?

Look forward to hearing from each of you,

Shaina

Seems like the response was "We're aware of the issue, but we're not going to fix it any time soon"...seems to work fine in Zeplin, might have to switch to that instead.

Cail & Shaina,
If the boxes of Background color & Include in export were checked off the icons remain with the transparency background on Inspect.

At list it's working for me.

Thanks Joana, that fixed it for SVG exports but strangely not PNG exports.

Also, now if i've changed the icon colour using overrides, invision inspect ignores it and shows the original, default colour.  Which is equally annoying!

Joana - Thank you very much for providing that workaround! Glad to hear that's working for you in the meantime.

Cail - I have notified your Support agent that you attempted this workaround, and your results when attempting this. Please look for a message from your Support agent in your inbox.

Shaina, I should clarify, I think it might be a seperate but related issue...ignoring the symbol overrides was happening regardless.

Example attached.

Hi Stan,

I apologize for the frustration that this issue is causing for you. I would like for our Support team to link you up with the issue that we are tracking so that they can keep you in the loop with any updates. Before getting one of our Support agents involved, can you please provide the following information?:

  1. A screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview
  2. What version of Sketch/Photoshop are you using?
  3. What version of the Craft plugins are you using?
  4. Additionally, out of curiosity, are the symbols you're using part of a Sketch library, or are they standalone symbols?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hey guys, I'm having a similar problem here.

So, after making a group in Sketch and adding the Slice with "Export group content only" checked everything seems great. I got the correct size (no transparent pixels trimmed) for the icon.

After I sync the design with Craft to InVision, I apparently got the correct sizes.

However, after downloading the icons I got the transparent pixels trimmed. (File dimensions are 81*69 instead of 81*81).

This is so frustrating because I'll have to spend more time exporting all these icons manually and share with the developers outside InVision. Problem is that this is so hard to maintain consistency whenever we make changes.

- About this mac:

- I'm using Sketch 52.6

- Craft:

Extra info:

This is how the group is created. Slice+symbol. The symbols are just standalone symbols

Any solution about this?

Hi Mario,

Sorry to see that you're also running into this issue. Thanks for taking the time to provide those screenshots and other details!

Cail discovered that a potential workaround is to remove the background color for the Sketch artboards:

However, this workaround only appears to help with SVG elements and not PNG.

As mentioned above, our team is continuing to track this issue as a known limitation, but are still gathering reports of the issue from users that this is impacting. That being said, I would like for our Support team to log your incident so that you can stay in the loop on any updates. I will open a ticket on your behalf with our Support team. Please keep an eye out for an email from one of our Support agents soon.

Thanks for hanging in there,

Shaina
