Auto Link Layers not showing

Hi there,

Initially I was getting a button when doing animations in the top right of the Edit timeline window. That's stopped showing. I've tried toggling the "Auto Link Layers" button in the Interaction dropdown menu. I've also tried uninstalling Invision Studio and reinstalling it but that hasn't had any effect.

I'd really appreciate any help as I'm midway through a work project.

Thanks

Dan

    Hi Dan,

Sorry to hear that you're running into issues when working with Studio. So that I can better understand the issues you are encountering, can you please provide the following information?:

         1. A screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview
         2. A screenshot of your Studio version details
         3. A screencast or screenshot displaying the issue(s) you are facing
         4. Are you receiving any error messages? If so, please provide a screenshot of the error(s) you are receiving.

Look forward to hearing from you,

    Shaina

    Hi Shaina,

Yes, here's all of them, And I'm not getting an error message. The Auto Link Layers button was there and then it disappeared. I'm wondering if it was something in the new release?

If possible could you make this ticket private please, or at-least my upload/video.

    Here's a screencast.

    [LINK HAS BEEN REMOVED]

    Thanks

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for providing those details. After taking a deeper look into this, I have found that the Autolink button has been removed since v1.0.0 and replaced by automatic linking of layers (which can be toggled using the "Autolink layers" option in the "Interactions" menu).

Please let me know if you're able to achieve the behavior you're attempting with this change.

Regarding your note about making this private, I can certainly save your screencast in our records and delete from your Community post.

    Thanks,

    Shaina

Hello, Im finding that the 'Auto Link Layers' does not work 100% of the time. I've tried every possible order of events:

    - removing all layers form artboard 2, then copy pasting them from artboard 1 into artboard 2

    - creating new layers in Artboard 2 that are the same name as artboard 1 . . .etc

Currently, I have 4 folders in artboard 1, and the same 4 folders in artboard 2. When I go into the timeline editor to test the transition, 2 out of the 4 are not linked. Then, I select the duplicate folder names and in the top right select 'auto link' but it still sees the 2 folders as different components, so it fades one out and fades the duplicate on, instead of transitioning between the two. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug?

    Hey Eve,

I had this issue as well. I think that you can only motion animate one object at a time.

Try putting all the objects (components)  in one folder. That worked for me.

    Best,

    Maria

    Hi Eve,

Thanks for reaching out here in Community about the issues you're encountering with autolinking in Studio.

Here's an overview of how linking works:

When first creating an interaction between two artboards, all shared layer rows are automatically linked and animated, unless you set manual overrides.

To manually unlink shared layers, select a shared layer and then, in the upper-right corner of the Timeline canvas, click the Unlink Layers button.

After unlinking the layers, the button text will change to Auto Link Layers, which you can click to link shared layers that you previously unlinked.

If a shared object or layer is added to both artboards after you have already created an interaction, these items will not be automatically linked.

If you want the new shared layer to be linked, you will need to do so manually.

Please note: It is only possible to auto link shared layers (i.e., layers that share the same name and exist on both artboards of the transition).

There are also numerous ways to animate linked layer fills—including image fills—in Studio (please check out the link for more info).

Please let me know if you are still running into issues after reviewing the information above. If so, I would love to have you work directly with one of our Support agents to address several of the issues you've reached out about here in Community. They will be able to troubleshoot directly with the files that you are encountering these issues, and help to get you some more concrete answers.

Look forward to hearing from you,

    Shaina
