Craft DSM – Vertical alignment not saved to text style or text frame?

Hello,

I wrote a post about this yesterday as well, but deleted it as I thought I had found a temporary solution, however I'm still struggling with this.

In my mind the vertical alignment (valign) settings of text inside a fixed size text box should follow that specific text box and not the text style, but I noticed that the text style is set to overridden when valign is changed. When I became of aware of that I thought that making a separate text style with the valign set to "bottom" it would work as expected.
But it seems that the valign setting on a text style is removed when syncing with or drag/drop from DSM.

I made some screenshots for you to see what I mean. The red frame marks the text frame.
The text styles are exactly the same, the only difference is that the one on the left is connected to the text style, while the one on the right is detached.

I tried to copy/paste the symbols to an empty document and the valign setting was kept, so this seems to be an issue with DSM, and not necessarily Sketch.

Cheers,
Anders

Hi Anders,

I appreciate you reaching out here again, and I'm happy to help you get to the bottom of these. Also, thank you very much for providing those screenshots! That's a great representation of the issues you're encountering.

I can confirm that our Engineering Team is investigating an issue where vertical text alignment is not saving when text styles are added to DSM. It sounds like this might be the issue you are encountering.

Before sending your information over to Support, can you please provide the following additional information for their records?:

     1. What version of Sketch or Photoshop are you using?
     2. What version of Craft Manager are you using?
     3. What version of DSM are you using?
     4. Can you please provide a screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hi Shaina, thanks for getting back to me :)

That sounds very much like what I'm experiencing!
As for my system info, I have:

  • Sketch 52.5
  • Craft Manager v1.0.73
  • DSM 1.0.22
  • and here's About my Mac

Thanks :)

I apologize for any inconvenience that this is causing for you in the meantime.

Have a wonderful day,

Shaina

Hi Shaina,

I'm experiencing the same issue as Anders.

DSM doesn't maintain my text styles vertical alignment properties.

• macOS Mojave 10.14.2
• Sketch 55.2
• Craft Manager 1.0.82
• DSM 1.1.18

is there any update or workaround for this?

Thanks,

Merlyn

Hi Merlyn,

So sorry to hear that you're also running into this issue. Thanks for taking the time to provide those details.

In addition to the details you have already provided, can you please send over screenshots of your "About this Mac" overview, and of the issue that you're facing?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hi Shaina,

Importing this symbol with bottom alignment from DSM seems to resets the vertical alignment back to top.

Thanks

Merlyn

Hi Merlyn,

Thanks for providing those details. This appears as if it's related to a known issue that our team is investigating. That being said, I would like our Support team to take a closer look at this.

I will open a ticket on your behalf including all of the information you have in this thread. Please keep an eye out for a message from one of our Support agents soon.

Thanks for hanging in there,

Shaina

Hi Shaina, I noticed that I'm having this issue with the DSM. I'm trying to get our team to adopt the use of DSM but the vertical text which we have centred in a button symbol keeps on shifting to the top. I have Sketch version 58. This issue goes back sometime, is there a fix? or do you know when this bug will be fixed which I think is quite a critical bug to fix if alignment can't be guaranteed over consistent components? Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

Hi David,

I apologize for the frustration that this issue must be causing for you. I can confirm that what has been reported by others in this thread is related to an issue we have raised with our Engineering Team. Currently, the vertical text alignment and spacing values are not being stored in DSM for components that have overrides using Sketch text styles. As a result, some of your text can shift after adding them from your DSM library.

The only way we've identified to get around this problem is to detach affected text styles from Sketch before syncing to DSM. While we know that this is far from ideal, I wanted to make sure to provide you with that workaround to help you in the meantime.

I will be opening a ticket on your behalf with our Support team so that they can gather all necessary details and keep you in the loop with any updates. Please look out for a message from one of our Support agents soon.

Thanks for hanging in there,

Shaina

Shaina, thanks for reaching out to me and logging this. I'm gearing our team up to fully convert over to the DSM and I know this will be something which is critical to ensuring the consistency of the design toolkit across our organisation. Thanks and will wait for your developers to reach out when this is fixed and I can move forward more with implementing this across the team. For now, I will use the recommended 'fix'.

Thanks

David

Of course, David. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have anymore questions. I hope that workaround helps in the meantime.

Have a great weekend,

Shaina
