Flashing Between Screens in a Prototype

Hi all,

I've been using InVision for a few years now but I'm coming up against an issue that I've experienced before but thought it was a first load issue.

I'm getting a flash when linking through to another screen in the prototype (which previously was solved, walking through the prototype first to basically cache all the screens first before showing the prototype fully).

In my latest prototype I'm using more a heavy mix of static screens and animated GIFs and the trick of caching before hand doesn't seem to offset the 'flashing' effect of a render. Any suggestions? (This is also happening when moving from static screen to static screen, not just within animated GIFs)

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joseph,

Sorry to hear that you're running into this issue! Just to clarify, are you only seeing this issue when using the InVision Web App? If so, can you please provide your browser details, including version number?

In order to get a a better idea of what might be going on, can you please also provide a screencast or share link to the prototype this is occurring with?

Look forward to helping you get some answers here.

Best,

Shaina

Hi Shaina,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm on Windows at the moment, using Chrome - Version 69.0.3497.92. I mainly work on OSX though, also using Chrome. Have tested in Firefox, Safari and Edge as well.

Can I send you a private IM with a link to a screen recording?

Thanks,
Joe

Is this problem been resolved? I would like to know the answer. Because I am using Mac and browser Chrome version Version 75.0.3770.80 (Official Build) (64-bit) and I am seeing this problem too.

It's very embarrassing to present a prototype to the stakeholders with none stop flashing screens between clickings. It almost taken away the benefits of a prototype.

I've been dealing with this issue in every prototype I've made since I started using Invision last year, it's really frustrating.

I'm using an iMac with Chrome Version 75.0.3770.100

Hi Shaina,

I'm also having this issue and have tried on two different computers...both Macs and both using Google Chrome.

Please can you let me know when this is fixed...it is really annoying as I hopes to include a video of the prototype in my portfolio... : (

Many thanks,

Katherine

I am also having this problem of flashing screen when I try to create an overlay. I am using a transparent png file. After I create the line, when I hover over the targeted area I just get a flashing and doesn't do anything. Is there a solution to this I am not seeing?

I am using chrome. Version 75.0.3770.142   I can't figure out how to download your desktop web app version so have been just using the browser.

I'm using Mac, Mojave 10.14.5

Chrome Version 75.0.3770.142 (64-bit)

I can provide more info if someone emails me directly. Thanks!

The screen flashing on page reload has also been happening to me. Regarding it being a first load issue, unfortunately, it really isn't good enough as every time I send to someone to test or if I share the prototype within the company, the prototype doesn't work as it should - and probably the biggest issue is that the links don't link to the correct place on the screen, but rather takes the user back to the top of the screen. Essentially there seems to be no point in even having links - I could right click through the prototype and have the same result. I've been looking at alternatives to Invision because of this issue, but would rather just have it fixed. Please can someone help me asap.

Thanks, Kate

UPDATE

Our apologies for the troubles some of you have experienced with transitions not respecting the set animations between screens. Our Engineers identified the source of the issue earlier and we released a fix for it.

Shaina Torgerson Thanks for the update. I'm also having this unfortunate issue. A flash during the transition from one screen to the next after clicking on a hotspot. It does put quite a damper on the experience of interacting with the prototype, and ruins the illusion. I noticed however that this goes away after the first flash. That said, I'm not going to go through all possible transitions first before presenting, just to get rid of the flash, and when I link to the prototype my audience won't do it either. I'm wondering if the solution may be in quickly preloading all images linked to from whatever screen you're currently on (but it would have to be very quick). I'm on the latest Chrome on Mac btw. Please keep us posted and hope this is resolved sooner rather than later...

Me too, I startet another conversation related to the same topic. Would be glad to have a solution stopping this flashing page transitions. This is really confusing while improtant presentations to stakeholders. It even happens with downloaded clickdummies, in several browsers like chrome and safari and also with only 1x resolution pictures. Thanks for help!

I'm also experiencing this issue. It appears as the screens are not being cached. I can force cache by using the arrow keys and then going back, but this should work off the bat.  I am using Craft to upload screens from Sketch, but hotspots are configured in the webapp.

I have the same issue. Before i was able to go through the project once and that would work.
Really annoyed and frustrated. You can't really send it or present it to anyone.... As far as i can see the problem was reported 2 years ago and it hasn't been fixed yet. I guess it is time for a change

Hi there, I'm also experiencing this both from the invisionapp view in chrome, and with the in-app display from studio.

The timeline view shows that studio actually lightens the background color, even though such a transition isn't planned.

I had a hackathon last weekend and used InVision for the prototyping. Definitely regret that. How annoying that flashing was! Took away the smoothness of the experience. Also, the timers don't work on mobile, and there's no way to NOT have a phone frame around the screens, which results in a ridiculous phone-within-a-phone prototype experience on mobile (no, we should not require people to download the Invision app in order to try out invision prototypes). Come on Invision get on it!
