Is there a way to override the color of a text style without having to create a new style? When I do this, the color changes temporarily but will revert back to the original if I place a new instance of the text style somewhere else in the document.
As Brad mentioned, this is the expected behavior due to a Sketch limitation. Currently, Sketch doesn't handle saving a text when a color was changed to that text style. When a text style is applied to a different text layer, that style is refreshed for all of the text layers that it is present for. This then causes the color to revert.Right now, the only workaround we can suggest is to detatch that layer from that specific text style, and then apply the color override.
I know that's not ideal, and we are looking at creative solutions to improve the behavior for the future, but I wanted to let you know, in the interest of transparency, that this is being considered expected behavior at this time. I have raised this issue with our DSM Product Manager and we will continue to be discussing this in upcoming weekly meetings.
I will open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest for this functionality. Please look for a message confirming your vote soon.
Thanks for hanging in there,

Before moving forward with this topic, can you please clarify which InVision product you are looking to do this with? For example, are you looking to update the color of a text style in Craft Library, Studio, or somewhere else?
Also, can you please provide a screencast or screenshot display the issue you are running into?
Look forward to hearing from you,
Hi Shaina, sorry I was using DSM. I may have an incorrect assumption as to how text styles work but if I can't override the color of a text style that would mean having to create a new text style for every instance. Hopefully you can give me some clarification.
Here you can see the issue in action :
Thank you very much for clarifying which product you are using, as well as providing that screencast. I would like for our Support team to take a closer look at this issue for you. I will open a ticket on your behalf with our Support team including these details. Please look for a message from them soon.
Is there any update on this? I'm running into the same issue. I have multiple text colors on multiple text styles (w/left, right, and centered justification). DSM doesn't appear to be able to handle large amounts of configurable text styles.
James, I was told that what you are noticing is the expected behavior and at the moment there is no plan to change it. Doesn't make sense to me. I hope they take another look at the problem.
This also happens on my team. Saved symbols are converted back to default text styles without any sort of indication unless we explicitly 'detach from text style' for each body of text on the page. It has made it incredibly hard to rely on DSM. What makes this so frustrating, is that Craft Library never suffered from this issue (assuming because they didn't use Sketch text styles).
I apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused for you and your team.As mentioned above, while we know the workaround above is not ideal, I hope that it can help you get around this issue in the meantime.
I'm happy to open a ticket on your behalf to track you vote for this functionality, and keep you in the loop on any updates. Please look for a message confirming your vote soon. I will also be bringing this issue to our next Product meeting so that our Product Manager for DSM is aware of the need for this function.
Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.
