Prototype Hotspots disappearing

We just went through a very frustrating experience investigating some disappearing hotspots. The hotspots were visible in Sketch, but not showing up on Invision. Occasionally, hotspots that had been on an artboard for some time would suddenly disappear from Invision. After much troubleshooting, we discovered that this could be fixed by re-uploading the missing hotspot's destination artboard, even though that artboard had not been changed. To do this properly, we had to go into sync settings and disable the option, "Prevent upload of unmodified artboards".

Even though we were able to fix the problem and continue using Sync + Prototype, this issue has definitely eroded confidence in the tool.

We're on Sync + Prototype 2.3.79

Same issue here, same lost of confidence. I can simply not update my project anymore, since all nav links are broken when I sync any screen. That means I can't work with the devs anymore, which represent 75% of my tasks.

Solution described by John Sellars technically works, provided that you sync the source page and the target page of the link/hotspot at the same time.

But it's NOT usable, since each uploaded target page contains links of its own, that need their own target pages to be uploaded at the same time, and so on…

As for the system specs:

1. Sketch v51.2 (bug appeared after update form v50.2)

2. Craft manager 1.0.70 (117)

3.

4. The issue is not visible on a screenshot, please read the description carefully. No error message is displayed, neither. Old and new links created with Prototype function in Sketch simply disappear on the prototype page online, once synced.

Hi John,

Sorry to hear that you're running into these issues! As a first step in troubleshooting, can you please provide the following information?:

     1. What version of Sketch are you using?
     2. What version of Craft Manager are you using?
     3. Can you please provide a screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview?
     4. Can you please provide a screenshot of the issue you're encountering, and any error messages you're receiving?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

I realize that pages containing links, that were uploaded at the same time than their links’ target pages, keep their links when uploaded again on their own afterwards.

So a temporary solution wold be to re-upload the whole project at the same time…

Hello,

I updated the homepage on our mobile prototype to use the new craft URLs from the symbol in the main menu. After this upload I tested and some overlays on the page worked, but not the main menu. After another re-upload all hotspots on the page have broken (even regular links and overlays) and will not sync any more. On invisionapp using shift doesn't reveal any hotspots on the page.

Craft 1.0.59

Syncing 'all artboards' broke all hotspots, including some already signed off by the client.

Hi Saige,

I apologize for the delay in response here. We just discovered your replies to your Community notification for this post which were sent to our "no-reply" email address. In the future, please reply by commenting here in Community, or by opening a ticket with our Support team here.

I went through your messages and see that your hotspots are now working! I'm glad to hear that you're no longer having issues. However, please do let us know if you would like our Support team to investigate what may have caused this issue in the first place.

Feel free to reply here or to the email I have sent you in response to your messages. Again, I apologize for the oversight.

Have a wonderful day,

We're also experiencing the same issues with some Craft prototype links failing to sync to Invision, it's really frustrating as it requires a lot of additional time testing the prototype to check it's usable, and we're resorting to a mix of Craft links and manually added hotspots in Invision to make our prototypes work.

Hi Andy,

I apologize for any frustration that this is causing for you and your team! I certainly want to help you with these issues. In order to determine the source of the problem, can you please provide the following information?:

  1. A screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview
  2. The version of Sketch that you're using
  3. The version of Craft Manager that you're running
  4. That verison of the Craft Sync + Prototype plugin that you're running
  5. A screenshot showing what happens when you sync to InVision
  6. A screenshot of your sync settings: Craft Manager > Click on the cogwheel in the top right corner > Preferences > Sync=
  7. If located in an office, can you try using a non-company WIFI (e.g personal hotspot) to sync to InVision - do you still have the same trouble? If you are able to sync to InVision without seeing an error after using a non-company WIFI, please have your IT team whitelist the following domains and ports in your proxy or firewall, check it out here.

As a mentioned above, a workaround for this issue is to select “all artboards” instead of “selected artboard” when syncing via Craft to make sure that the hotspots sync across.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hi Shaina,

This has been an ongoing problem across every version of Sketch + Craft + Invision I've used over the last couple of years, but for reference here are the versions and settings I'm using now:

1.

2. Sketch 55.1

3. Craft 1.0.81

4. Sync + Prototype 2.3.130

5. Craft prototype hotspot present in Sketch is not there in Invision after export via Craft. Checked in build mode and there's no yellow hotspot area shown.

6. Sync settings

7. Will check with IT on the whitelisting.

Will try the all-artboards approach for future exports.

Thanks,
Andy

Hi! Same thing here, I'm using Craft to upload my screens from sketch to invision, and even though craft notifies that the screens were uploaded, there's some screens that have specific hotspots missing, i tried deactivating the "prevent upload of unmodified artobards" and then syncing screens again, but the same hotspots are missing in invision even though the hotspots are created in sketch using craft. It's very frustrating :(

Hi Nicolás,

Thanks for reaching out here in Community to report this issue as well. I apologize for the frustration that this issue is causing for you.

As a next step in troubleshooting, can you also try creating a new project in InVision with the Sketch Project please?:

  1. Make sure no specific layers or artboards are selected in Sketch, this is best achieved by clicking the Page in the left hand to select it.
  2. Click the Sync button from the Craft Toolbar in your Sketch project after saving it.
  3. Enter a new file name in the field.
  4. Click the "Create prototype" option that drops down.
  5. Choose a project type.
  6. Click Publish.

If you are still experiencing this issue please let me know.

Best,

Shaina

I'm experiencing a hugely frustrating issue with hotspots as well and I'm using the latest version of Studio (1.22.1), Safari (12.1.2). The prototype works inside Studio quite well. It's only once loaded to InVisionapp and played via the link that things get weird. My prototypes on InVisionapp are slow to upload and laggy when viewed. Internet has been tested. Sometimes when I click a hotspot it works and other times, even after repeated clicking on the hotspot or off, they don't even show up as a hint. Sometimes a few seconds later they show up but often at that point it doesn't matter how much I click the hotspot, the prototype is stuck completely. I checked and rechecked all hot spot connections. I made hotspots that weren't in groups or attached to assets. I deleted the old ones and made them fresh. I deleted the screen and made that new. I deleted timer based interactions in case that was the culprit.

Hey Jared,

I apologize for the issues you're encountering with previewing your Studio prototype interactions in the Cloud. I appreciate you taking the time to provide the details that you have, and a screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview.

In order to determine what's going on here, can you please provide some additional information?:

  1. A screencast or screenshot(s) displaying the issues you're encountering
  2. If you're able to share publicly, can you please provide a share link to your prototype?
  3. Is this happening with all prototypes or one in particular?

Look forward to hearing from you soon,

Shaina

Hi Tanguy,

Sorry to hear that you're also encountering these issues! Before getting our Support team involved in troubleshooting here, I would like to try a couple of things first.

If the above does not help, could you provide a screenshot showing what happens when you sync to InVision?

Rest assured we will look to get to the bottom of the trouble here!

Thanks,

Shaina

Hi Shaina,

Changing to a personal WIFI didn't change a thing... Just to be sure you get the problem I have right I reuse the description by Lazarescou and change it a bit :

"Each screen link/hotspot to another page screen or when screens are linked together but sync separately, the hotspot disappears on the prototype.

Solution described by John Sellars technically works, provided that you sync the source page and the target page of the link/hotspot at the same time.

But it's NOT usable, since each uploaded target page contains links of its own, that need their own target pages to be uploaded at the same time, and so on…

The issue is not visible on a screenshot, please read the description carefully. No error message is displayed, neither. Old and new links created with Prototype function in Sketch simply disappear on the prototype page online, once synced."

Thanks,

Tanguy

Thanks for following up, Tanguy. I also appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot using both my suggestion and John's.

At this point, I would like for our Support team to take a closer look at this for you. They will be able to determine if what you're experiencing is related to a known issue that our Engineering team is investigating. I will open a ticket on your behalf including all of the information that you've provided in your comments.

Please keep an eye out for a message from one of our Support agents soon, and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or comment.

Best,

Shaina

Hi Saige,

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear that you are having trouble syncing via Craft! I’ll be more than happy to assist you with this. I’d like to recommend the next troubleshooting step below:

If located in an office, can you try using a non-company WIFI (e.g personal hotspot) to sync to InVision - do you still have the same trouble? If you are able to sync to InVision without seeing an error after using a non-company WIFI, please have your IT team whitelist the following domains and ports in your proxy or firewall, check it out here.

If the above does not help, can I please gather a few additional details below which will help us troubleshoot the issue further?

  1. Could you provide a screenshot showing what happens when you sync to InVision?
  2. Can you please send a screenshot of your sync settings? Craft Manager > Click on the cogwheel in the top right corner > Preferences > Sync

As a temporary workaround for this issue you can try selecting “all artboards” instead of “selected artboard” when syncing via Craft to make sure that the hotspots sync across.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina
