Studio: Adding fonts

Seeing as this is still in beta, its probably just not a feature yet... But, is there a way to add your own fonts to Studio? I've search far and near but can't seem to find a answer anywhere.

Thanks

Hi Tatjana,

Thanks for taking the time to provide the information above!

I would like to gather a bit more information from you for further testing:

     1. Are the fonts that have the issue commercial purchased fonts (for example from type foundries like fontshop.com myfonts.com etc.) or freely downloadable fonts?
     2.  If they are purchased, can you please let me know the font names and the foundries they were purchased from a couple of them?
     3. Have you tried quitting Studio and restarting my computer?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hmmm. I received both my Avant Garde font files from different but both extremely reliable sources.

Oh, yes, I definitely tried restarting everything.

Hi Tatjana

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue.

Have you tried placing the fonts in the system library (/library/fonts) ?

Is there a way to add fonts on Windows?

1
Shaina Torgerson

Hi Markus,

Yes, you can add fonts in Studio for Windows! In order to get the font to show up in Studio, you will need to first download and install the font on your Windows machine. Then, you will need to either reboot Studio twice, or restart your PC in order for the font to show up in Studio.

Please let me know if you have any issues getting your fonts in Studio for Windows.

Have a great day,

Shaina

Thank you for the quick answer, that worked.

For anyone on Windows still having problems: you need to have a .ttf file downloaded, and you have to right click it and click 'Install'. Drag and drop into the font settings of Windows doesnt seem to work.

Glad to hear that worked for you, Markus! I appreciate you adding those additional details to help out anybody else that might be trying to figure out how bring new fonts into Studio for Windows.

Hope you have an awesome day,

Shaina

Hey Michele and Shaina,

I was not able to install Avant Garde into System fonts because that access has been disable by Apple since 2017. I just went to the Genius Bar and they said it was impossible... unless I went into terminal and modified root... which I do not have the expertise to undertake. Anything else InVision can do to get the desktop app to recognize my fonts?

Thanks,

Tatjana

Hi Tatjane

Thank you for reaching out and so sorry to hear you are not able to install the desired font onto your system.

It is very strange for me. Two things I would like to ask you.

1) Can you send me a link of the website that you downloaded the font from? Reason being is I just installed a version on my system (apologies going to sound like IT support now) and it works on my side. Just want to be sure so I can assist you.

2) Have you tried the following:

  • Open Finder by clicking on the search icon top right corner of your main system action bar.
  • Then type  /library/fonts

  • Click on the Fonts folder or press the Enter key.
  • Copy and paste font .ttf files into Fonts folder (If a window opens to confirm move, click "move" button).

Please reply to the post so we can assist as best we can. Again apologies for the inconvenience.

If you encounter this on Windows. You want to make sure when you install the font you select all the fonts and do > Install For All Users.

Restart studio and you should be off to the races.

So, I finally figured it out. InVision was struggling with all my PostScript Type files, so I downloaded an OpenType font (.otf) version of the same typeface - and that worked!

Also I made sure the typeface was disabled in the "User" section of Font Book and enable in the "Computer" section only. And disabled all the duplicates.

Thank you for your help! (and the InVision staff I've been messaging with over email)

Just FYI, for those having this issue with 3rd party fonts.

If you are using fonts under Adobe Fonts (Typekit) / FontStand distribution model - those fonts that you can user on your Mac but don't appear in your Font Book  -, a possible solution is to run your Sudio App as an ADMIN. Easy as 1,2,3: CONTROL + Click on InvisionStudio and click Open.

This should load all the fonts accessible to the admin, including your Typekit and Fontstand.

Best regards!

Having this same problem with Invision Studio 1.22.1.

I'm wanting to use Lato and Cormorant Garamond, which are both Google fonts, but they do not show up in the font drop down in Invision Studio. I use RightFont for font management and they are both activated in there.

I'm on a 2018 MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Intel Core i7, 32GB, 1TB computer running Mojave 10.14.6.

Has there been any resolution to installed fonts not showing up in the drop down?

Hi Reggie,

I apologize for the issues you're facing with adding fonts to Studio 1.22.1. To get a better idea of what might be causing this, can you please provide some additional information?:

  1. What are the font file types (ie. .otf) for the fonts you're trying to use?
  2. Have you tried a few of the processes mentioned above by Michéle, Septimiu, and Tatajana?
  3. Are you able to download these fonts to the Font Book? In order to do that, open the "Font Book.app". Click the "Computer" tab on the left sidebar. Then you should see a "+" button in the toolbar. Click that button and locate your custom font.
  4. Have you tried quitting Studio and restarting my computer? Our Support team has been able to replicate this issue trying to access some fonts in Studio as well. The last time they had this problem, they had to quit Studio by going to InVision Studio > Quit InVision Studio, then reopening it again. After that, they were able to access the font.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hello
i'm using Studio for Windows, and i have a problem on using Google Fonts. The fonts didn't appear on the Fonts box even though u have already installed it.

Hi Rahadian,

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with using Google Fonts in Studio for Windows. To get a better idea of what might be causing this, can you please provide some additional information? Some of these will be repeated questions from those above:

  1. Can you please send a screenshot of your operating system information? We need to see both the “Device specifications” and the “Windows specifications” sections on the “About” page. To grab that info, click the Start (Windows icon) button, and then click Settings > System > About.
  2. What version of Studio are you using?
  3. Could you provide a screencast or screenshots showing what's going wrong?
  4. Is this happening with all Google Fonts, or one (or some) in particular? If one (or some), which one(s)?
  5. Have you tried quitting Studio and restarting your computer? Our Support team has been able to replicate this issue trying to access some fonts in Studio as well.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hi Eugenia,

Thanks for reaching out about this! Very sorry to hear you're having trouble with your SF Pro Display font not appearing in Studio. Could you share a few details to help us look into this?

  1. Can you tell us a little more about the behavior you're seeing when trying to use your font in Studio?
  2. Can you share a screenshot or screencast showing this font behavior?
  3. If you restart Studio, does the font issue still appear afterwards?

Looking forward to digging this further, Eugenia!

Best,
Jeremy

  1. The version of Studio that you're using
  2. A screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview
  3. Is this happening with all fonts, or one (or some) in particular? If one (or some), which one(s)?
  4. Are you able to download these fonts to the Font Book? In order to do that, open the "Font Book.app". Click the "Computer" tab on the left sidebar. Then you should see a "+" button in the toolbar. Click that button and locate your custom font.
