Symbols not expanding in Inspect Mode after exporting from Sketch 50

After updating Sketch to version 50 and syncing screens with Craft Sync (2.3.72) using Craft Manager v1.0.62 (102) some symbols are being exported properly and some not. Below you can see an example of layout structure previewed in Inspect Mode, one symbol (the "icon-checkmark") got properly expanded and there is an asset waiting for developers to grab there. Others - not so much. They are structured in the same way, I tried to delete the screen and re-uploading it, uploading a test page with just one symbol etc - same effect. Symbols are not getting exported properly.

I'm also getting the "exported, but there were some errors" toast from Craft Manager.

UPDATE 4/9/19

Our apologies for the troubles that each of you encountered with missing groups/layers in the Inspect Layer List after syncing from Sketch to InVision with the Anima plugin enabled.

Our Engineers have identified the source of the issue, and we have released a fix in our most recent version of Craft Manager, version 1.0.79. Our Support team has tested here and everything is working correctly once more.

Please make sure your Craft Manager is updated to version 1.0.79 (Sync version 2.3.126), and then give this another try and let us know if you're still having any troubles. Otherwise, thanks so much for your patience while we worked to fix this issue.

I would be sure to report this as a bug. I would bet it's because of some export changes that were made in (sketch 50) in  the way layers are exported. I was able to replicate this.

I can verify this. In my case I got no errors while syncing, but while syncing it entirely skips the expanding symbols step.

I switched back to Sketch 49.3 and opened the file again (after it was saved as a Sketch 50 file) and the problem remains.

So it looks like it may be a Craft issue or something that was changed in Sketch's file structure.

Getting the same result. Symbols are not importing correctly from Craft. I've also tried deleting in Invision and re-upload. No change. Also upgraded to Sketch 50, using Craft 1.0.62

InVision just release Craft 1.0.63 yesterday afternoon which looks like it has resolved the issue. Working for me on Sketch 50.

Thank you so much for your patience while our engineering team worked to resolve the issue you were experiencing where symbols would not expand in Inspect. We apologize for the disruption this caused to your workflow. I'm sure that it was frustrating. 

I am happy to report that our Engineering team was able to pinpoint the cause of this issue and has released a fix. Yesterday afternoon, we released Craft Manager 1.0.63. When you get a moment, please make sure you update to the latest version of Craft Manager. If you haven't been prompted automatically, you can manually check for updates by doing the following:

     1. Click on the "C" icon in the macOS menu bar.
     2. Click on the cogwheel icon in the Craft Modal.
     3. Choose "Preferences"
     4. Near the bottom you should see the current version of Craft Manager and a link to "Check for Updates."
     5. If Craft hasn't already updated, click on "Check for Updates" and let 1.0.63 install.

Once you've installed 1.0.63, please try syncing your projects again. Once you re-sync your projects, your symbols should display in Inspect as expected. Please give this a try and let us know if the behavior is resolved or if you continue to have trouble.

Hi Chris,

So sorry to hear that you're running into this issue. As a next step, I'd like to have you perform a comprehensive, deep uninstall/reinstall of Craft using the steps below, as well as update to the latest version of Craft Manager 1.0.67. This can help to rule out or pinpoint an array of possible issues that could be going on here. Please skip any steps that are not applicable (e.g. if a file/folder mentioned is not present) and let me know if you get stuck anywhere along the way:

  1. Close Craft Manager (by clicking into the "C" > clicking the gear icon > choosing Close).
  2. Go into Sketch, and navigate to Plugins ➝ Manage Plugins.
  3. In the pop-up modal, select Craft by InVision Labs, and click the gear icon in the lower left and select the uninstall option. This will move some items to the trash.
  4. Quit Sketch entirely.
  5. Open the Activity Monitor (via Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor), and then force quit the Craft Manager and Panels (if applicable) processes.
  6. Open Spotlight and search for ~/Library/Application Support/
  7. Delete the com.invisionlabs.CraftManager folder, the com.invisionlabs.CraftManager.json file, the com.invisionlabs.CraftInstaller folder, and the CraftManager folder.
  8. Open the com.bohemiancoding.sketch3 folder.
  9. Delete the Panels folder (if applicable). Please note that these steps will remove any custom Type or Photos items you’ve created in Craft Data. If you'd like to preserve those, please go to ~/Library/Application Support/com.bohemiancoding.sketch3/Panels/.settings and back up the file "com.invisionlabs.data."
  10. Open the Plugins folder.
  11. Delete the Panels.sketchplugin file (if applicable).
  12. Navigate to the Downloads folder.
  13. Search for craftinstaller and delete any files that deal with the Craft Installation process.
  14. In Applications or the folder in which you installed Craft Manager, delete CraftManager.app.
  15. Empty the Trash.
  16. Go to https://craft-assets.invisionapp.com/CraftManager/production/CraftManager.zip and unzip the CraftManager
  17. Drag and drop the Craft Manager app into your computer's "Applications" folder or the folder of your choice before launching it.
  18. Open Craft Manager and then install Craft for Sketch.
  19. If you had backed up the "com.invisionlabs.data" file before performing these steps: launch Sketch now in order to rebuild the ` ~/Library/Application Support/com.bohemiancoding.sketch3/Panels/.settings ` directory. Then, place the backed up "com.invisionlabs.data" file in the ".settings" folder and restart Sketch to restore your custom Type & Photos items.

Once you have completed this, try syncing your project again and let me know if you are still experiencing the same issues. If you are still experiencing issues, can you please provide what version of the Craft Sync + Prototype plugin you are using?

Still having the same issue. Symbols have been marked for export, but do not appear as downloadable. Symbols, with symbols in them are not expanded either. Currently using Craft Sync + Prototype 2.3.75

Hi Invision Support Team,
I just finished the 19 Step plan from above and still got the same issue:
In the inspect mode, symbols are now shown as one layer without any nested layers inside. This is a fairly new thing, as the untouched files from last week were ok, until I synched them today.

I didn't notice any errors.

Sorry to hear you're running into these issues in Inspect Mode. Can you please provide a screenshot or screencast displaying the issues you're facing?

Additionally, we have seen that clearing data (cache and cookies) from your browser has worked for others in the past. For help doing that, please see Clearing your browser's cache and cookies for more detail. Once cleared as per the above instructions, please restart your browser and attempt to perform the InVision action again. If you're still having trouble after that, please do let me know.

If you still have trouble in an incognito browser and after you clear your cache and cookies, please let me know which browser and version you are using and if any other browsers are having issues as well.

Hi Shaina,

now I tried this after removing the cache and cookies and in incognito mode in two browsers.

Google Chrome Version 70.0.3538.110

and

Safari Version 11.1.2

One thing is better now:

A folder which had a couple of layers inside was displayed as a layerless symbol before. It is displayed correctly now. I can see all the layers now in inspect mode and the units and values of them.

But what is still not visible (in the right hand side menu) are all the styles, values and overrides that the symbols have. And in general no child-elements of symbols.

The attached screenshot shows a symbol with 2 textfields inside. All I get from inspect mode is the size of the whole symbol.

Please fix this issue... it's really frustrating for the developers not to be able to inspect stuff... right now we have to "detach from symbol" all the time

Thank you very much for running through those steps! Sorry to hear that you're still encountering issues.

As a next step, can I please ask you to open Craft Manager, click on the cogwheel in the top right corner, open the Preferences and head to the Sync tab to make sure that the checkbox “Prevent upload of unmodified artboards” is unticked? Could you please then re-sync the artboard and let me know if that solves the issue? 

Additionally, could you also head to www.whatsmybrowser.org and paste the link it generates for you in your reply?

I'd rather share my whatsmybrowser data privately.
The “Prevent upload of unmodified artboards” checkbox was unchecked since before I went through all steps of deleting and reinstalling craft.

I think I found the reason: I have the Anima plugin installed too and deactivating the plugin did the trick for me.

Update:
Well, this was premature.
Yes, the symbols expand and I see the layers.
But there is still one last thing that still isn't correct: some overrides of symbols do not show up. In my example, I have a state-layer and a color-layer. And in some cases they are not accounted for in the layer menu (the state layer) or the override-values are not in the right sidebar (color layer).
The only way to make them show up for me is, to remove the overrides completely and enter the exact same ones again.

I cannot do that for all instances of all elements. Any ideas?

I have the same issue with latest plugins and Sketch.

As soon as I turn off Anima and re-upload to InVision I can see the content of Symobls. With Anima enabled it shows just the symbol with no child elements.

So I guess Craft and Anima Dev's will have to take a look at this.

 

Please find a quick solution though, as both Anima and InVision are kind of essential to our workflow and dev's not being able to inspect is a real problem.
