IOS invision portrait and landscape protoype.

I am designing a prototype in Sketch where I want to link from a portrait art board to a landscape art board.

Once viewing the prototype in Invision it will not allow me to rotate my screen.

Does anyone know of a work around to have an app that has both portrait and landscape?

Thank you,

Hi Jeremy,

Are you creating two separate prototypes one that is landscape and one that is portrait and setting one prototype to link to the other? This is the only way I can think to do this, but then you would have to open the second link in a new window.

Hi Jeremy,

What I've done before for these scenarios is I keep my art board the same direction as the other art boards, but make adjust and rotate my design to the art board. So when you upload it to InVision you continue to prototype as if you were in portrait but you're tricking the orientation to  make it seem like it rotated to landscape.

Here's an example using Sketch:

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with here.

Thanks,

Lala

Hi Lara,

May I ask a follow up question?

How do I rotate a mock-up screen that I uploaded from a hand-drawing? There is no feature to rotate the raw picture? Thanks.

Regards,
Fang

Hi Fang!

I don't think there's a way to rotate a hand-drawing screen in InVision, I suggest to bring it to Photoshop or Sketch and rotate it from there.

Hope that helps!

Lala,

That was the same workaround I came up with as well, but you still cannot rotate the physical phone without getting the "Rotate" message on your phone.  I am sure others have complained about this before.  I am not sure why the entire project needs to be locked one way other the other, maybe constraints?

Thank you,

Jeremy,

Ah, yes - I had that same issue until I started locking the orientation of the testing phone. Have you tried locking the orientation of the phone?

I think device orientation recognition could be a cool feature! I'll pass it along :)

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for reaching out regarding this functionality, as well as working with our Ambassadors! It sounds like you are interested in a feature for device orientation recognition as Lala mentioned above.

I am happy to open a ticket on your behalf with our Support team so that they can track your interest for this feature. Please look for a message from them soon.

Have a wonderful day,

Shaina

Hi,

I was wondering if there had been any update on the above feature? How I've done it before is create one prototype in Portrait and another in Landscape - it would be great however to have them linked within the same prototype and based on orientation InVision automagically recognises when to switch to Portrait vs. Landscape.

LaLa's work around seems like an interesting work around for now (if not a bit of time having to 'trick' InVision rotating Landscape screens after the fact).

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joseph,

It appears as if our Product and Engineering teams are still tracking this feature. I apologize for not having a more detailed update at this time. However, I would be happy to open a ticket on your behalf to track your vote for this feature and to keep you in the loop with any further updates. Please be sure to look for a message confirming your vote.

I hope that Lala's workaround is helpful to use in the meantime. Please let me know if there's anything else we can help you with.

Have a great day,

Shaina

Created a 16x9 ratio screen to prototype with a client and currently, we can only test this landscape view in the invisionapp browser view and not the actual app on our samsung galaxy tab. It's annoying that we cannot view our prototype in anything besides portrait mode on this tablet.

Hi Corey,

I apologize for the frustration that this issue is causing for you when presenting to your client. We definitely want to help you get to the bottom of this. To determine what might be causing this, can you please provide the following information?:

  1. A screenshot displaying the issue
  2. The version of the InVision mobile app that you're running
  3. Your Samsung Galaxy Tab's operating system details
  4. Your mobile browser details
  5. Did you attempt the workaround mentioned by Lala above? If so, did it work for you?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Hi,

I am creating a mockup in InVision where I need a screen to display as Landscape where the rest of the mockup is Portrait. How do I set one screen to landscape?

Hi Ben,

At this time, it is not possible to have different screen orientations within the same prototype. However, our Product Team is currently tracking interest in a feature request to add the ability to create responsive prototypes that include mobile/tablet/desktop versions or both portrait and landscape within a single prototype.

I’ll open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest for this potential feature. Please keep an eye out for an email confirming that we've formally tracked your need for this.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help out with.

Have a great day,

Shaina

All I want to do is to upload screens that are designed in landscape.

Currently it fills the top 1/3rd of the portrait.

Shouldn't this be an easy template fix?

Thank you.

Hi Ted,

We’d like to look into this issue further with you. To help us do so, would you mind providing some additional details?

1. What mobile device are you using
2. Could you provide a screenshot of the issue that you've described above?
3. Are you using the InVision app or a mobile browser? If the app, which version? Or if a mobile browser, which one and what version?
4. What orientation setting do you set in the InVision Cloud/web app?

Looking forward to your reply!

Best,
Ella

1.) iPad

2.) Very simple. I need the beginning template to be a Landscape for an iPad. All my sketches are landscape views.

3.) InVision app on my computer; latest version.

4.) When I create a Prototype, the only choice for an iPad is in Portrait.

Hi Ted,

Thanks for following up with those details. If you're trying to edit the orientation of your prototype, check out this Help Article.

If you're still having issues after reviewing that article, can you please clear up a few more pieces of information to get an even better idea of what's going on here?:

  1. To clarify, are you experiencing this issue when viewing your prototype on your iPad, or your computer in the InVision web app?
1a. If viewing on your iPad, what version of iOS are you running?
1b. If viewing on your computer, can you please provide a screenshot of your "About this Mac" overview, and your browser details?
  2. Are you able to please take a screenshot of what you're seeing your computer screen where 1/3 of your view if filling up?
  3. If you're able to do so publicly, can you provide a share link to your project?
  4. Did you originally create your prototype in Sketch? If so, what version of Sketch are you using?
4a. If you used Craft to sync your project, can you please provide the version of Craft Manager that you're running?

Look forward to hearing back,

Shaina

Hi Bayer PD

Thank you for weighing in here in Community! As my colleague Shaina mentioned earlier in this thread, at this time it is not possible to have both portrait and landscape screens within the same prototype.

The ability to create responsive prototypes that include both portrait and landscape orientations within a single prototype is a feature request our Product team is currently tracking. I'll go ahead and open a ticket on your behalf to track your interest for this potential feature — please keep an eye out for an email from our team!

Best,
Laura
