There was a problem connecting to the server... craft sync network error issue

Trying to upload some artboards to a project from home. (not at work).

I have internet access.

No proxy.

When I click sync button, from craft plugin I get a mac error:

"There was a problem connecting to the server [server name].

The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and then try again."

The name of the server is a work server.

I don't know why it would try and upload to a work server....i'm trying to upload to invision. We have an enterprise account, not sure if that is causing it?

UPDATE

First off, our sincere apologies for the long delay in following up on the issue that some of you reported where you encountered "There was a problem connecting to the server" error message when using Craft Sync. Our Engineering teams has recently released some fixes for this issue. Could you please update your CraftManager to version v1.0.95 (CraftManager > cog wheel settings > Preference) and see if the issue is resolved for you?

Thanks very much for your patience while we try to resolve the bug. Feel free to let us know if there's anything else that we can assist with.

Hi there,

I too have the same problem as described by Richard. This error only occurs when I try to sync outside of my office location. I don't understand why invision is trying to locate my server. I am also using local files from my harddrive.

Error message:

"There was a problem connecting to the server "Server Name".

The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."

This error message continues to intermittently appear until I restart my machine. It's driving me nuts as I do a lot of remote work away from my office.

I also have the same problem when syncing.

Craft somehow tries to communicatie with a server IP I am not connect to, while syncing an artboard.

Hi Kathryn and Waal,

Thanks for getting in touch on Community regarding this issue.  To help us determine what might be causing this issue, there are a few questions we have for the users experiencing issues:

     1. What operating system are you using? Please include the version (e.g. macOS 10.13.3 or Windows 10).
     2. What version of Sketch are you using?
     3. What version of the Craft plugins are you using?
     4. Could you provide a screenshot showing what’s going wrong?

If you have any difficulties obtaining this information, please reply including as much information as possible.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Hey, i have the same issue here! Working with InnVision since 4 Years and it became a problem some weeks /Moth ago. We definetly need a fix for this. I think a lot of us are working inside closed company networks but also work on weekends, so this needs to be considered for the next craft manager update. THX :)

Weird thing is, Craft-Manager will still sync to the prototype. But it just takes hours. Because Craft-Manager trys to connect to the remote-server, then waits for the timeout (5 Minutes) but then continues to sync if you click "OK". And then it starts over again...searching for server....waiting for timeout.....confirm with "ok".....sync......seaching for server...... i hope you know what i mean

Hey, i have the same issue here. When I'm at work, everthing works wells and how it should be but as soon as I work from home there comes the problem with the server like in all the other cases in this forum.

Is there a solution now that the question was asked 1.5 years ago?

Hi there,

Based on past reports we have discovered that this error can occur if the Sketch file is stored in a different network location than what Craft Manager is looking for.  That being said, we are wondering if your Sketch file is saved on a shared network drive which can only be connected while you're connected to your company network. If so, if you move the sketch file to the local folder on your machine, are you able to sync the file? Or does the file include any items which are copied from a sketch library that is saved on a shared network drive?

If you're still having issues after testing this, can you please send over some additional details so that we can try to find the source of this issue for your instance?:

     1. What operating system are you using? Please include the version (e.g. macOS 10.13.3 or Windows 10).
     2. What version of Sketch are you using?
     3. What version of Craft Sync + Prototype are you running?
     4. What version of Craft Manager are you running?
     5. Could you provide a screenshot showing what’s going wrong?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Shaina

Same here bit there is no local file. At least there should not be on the network. I am working in conjunction with Abstract.

MacOS 10.14.6

Sketch 58 (84663)

Craft Manager 1.0.88 (162)

I can't provide you with a screenshot as this happens only in certain circumstances.

Yesterday we had an ISP internet outage and I had to connect to internet over a hotspot - so I was disconnected from the local network. When I tried to sync to invision, Craft wanted a connection to a server on our local network. As I said, I was not working from files located on that server, we work in conjunction with Abstract, so the files are in the cloud (or Abstract stores them locally when it syncs?). When the files were first added to Abstract they were transferred from the network drive, so this could be the issue?

I am also having this issue. My files have nothing to do with the server because I've moved them to my hard drive, yet it's saying it's trying to connect to my server at work (I am at home.) Please let me know if there is a fix for this. Thanks!

Hi Cherith,

Sorry to hear that you're encountering this same issue. To get to the bottom of what's causing this for you, can you please provide some additional information?:

  6. Can you please try whitelisting the domains and ports found here, and let me know if the issue continues?

Look forward to hearing back soon,

Shaina

Same isssue, here's the error message:

All I'm trying to do is sync a project, very annoying!

The file is local, has always been local and shares no assets with a project stored on our work server.

I'm using Mac OS 10.14.3
Sketch Version 60
Craft Manager 1.0.90

Hi there,

Sorry to see that you're running into some issues with using Craft Sync. Thanks for providing all of the information that you have above! That gives us a nice, clear idea of the issue that you're encountering.

After working with some of the other users in this thread, our Engineers have recently become aware of an issue that can occur when CraftManager is unable to locate the Sketch file if it was moved to a different network location. As a result CraftManager is storing data that no longer matches what exists on the network. The troubles you encountered with the "There was a problem connecting to the server..." error messaging relates this issue.

That being said, I would like our Support team to take a closer look at this for you to determine if this is, in fact, the same issue that our Engineers are taking a look at. I will open a ticket on your behalf with our Support team including the details that you have here. Please keep an eye out for an email from one of our Support agents soon.

Thanks for hanging in there,

Shaina

Hi,

I have the same problem...
I start working on a project at work (local of course) everything is fine. And when I try to sync from home at night, it doesn't work.
It is continuously searching for a work server which is not needed for the project.

No shared libraries, no files linked to this file on the server...
Maybe it's because other previous projects are on this server ans has been synced while the project files where on the server ?

I'm using Mac OS 10.14.5
Sketch Version 60 (88103)
Craft Manager 1.0.90

thx

Shaina Torgerson Above you said "CraftManager is storing data that no longer matches what exists on the network. The troubles you encountered with the "There was a problem connecting to the server..." error messaging relates this issue. "

So it looks like your team has possibly figured out what is going on. But is there a way to remove whatever information CraftManager is storing? I am having the same issue as others and it's really causing problems at work when I have to be out of our office but still working.

Mac 10.15.1

Sketch 61

Craft Sync + Prototype 2.3.143

Craft Manager 1.0.91

Here's a screenshot. An interesting point to note is that the server it is trying to reference is a backup that our office had up two days ago.

Typically, if i am not connected, Craft tries to reference our usual server. So when our usual server was down I was not able to upload.

However, today our server is back up but instead of uploading fine it is now trying to reference the backup server that we had up two days ago. As if the reference point for the server is two days old.

Thanks for providing the details you have above around this issue, Tory. So sorry to hear that you're also encountering this. Before having our Support team take a closer look at this for you, can you please provide some more info to help us determine the source of the issue in your case?:

  1. Are you seeing this issue with all Sketch files or just this one?
  2. If you uninstall Craft plugins for Sketch and then reinstall them, does this issue continue?
  3. If you log out of Craft Manager and then log back in, does this issue continue?
  4. If you restart Sketch, does this issue continue?
  5. If you do a computer restart, does this issue continue?

Look forward to hearing back,

Shaina

Hi Shaina Torgerson Thank you so much for your quick response. It looks like the issue has resolved.

I tested the first two items:

1. The issue was persistent in all sketch files.

2. After reading your message, I realize that you were saying to just uninstall Craft from sketch (not my computer as a whole). But I misunderstood so I uninstalled CraftManager and all of its preferences/application support files in my library. Once I reinstalled it, it looks like the issue resolved. I even disconnected from my work server and wifi network and uploaded a local file using a hotspot on my phone and this worked!

This means that I did not test 3, 4, or 5. It might be worth mentioning that within the past year I have gone through all of these steps including uninstalling CraftManager with its preferences/application support files from my computer entirely and the issue persisted.

I tried to trigger the issue again to test #3, #4, and #5 to see if those less drastic steps would work. I attempted to do this by uploading a file from my server, copying that same file locally, disconnecting from the server, and uploading while not connected to the server (to simulate what would happen if I was working remotely) but I was unable to even trigger the issue!

This is unbelievably helpful that I can upload from anywhere now, thank you so much!
