Fixed header/footer on many screens?

Hi,

I have a prototype with a lot of screens that have the same fixed header and footer. Is there a way I can apply the fixed header/footer across many screens at once, without having to do it again and again on every screen?

Thank you,

Ed

Hey Ed!

Welcome to the InVision Community! There's currently no way to apply a fixed header/footer to multiple screens at once. Apologies for the confusion and/or inconvenience there. Have a great week!

Heath, Thanks for joining the Community and taking the time to comment!

I personally can't speak on whether the functionality is on the roadmap or not, but I can bring it up to Support as a feature request. We'll follow up if/when there are any updates available.

Thanks again - take care!

Hey, having a feature like this would be perfect. I have 200+ pages that require a fixed header and fixed footer. So if there was a quicker way to apply setting to all pages, that would save soo much time and headache, instead of manually applying the settings to each screen! Please do add this to your roadmap as a relatively high priority. Thanks

I totally agree about creating a function that permits users to use a fixed header on multiple pages, especially because is very frequent in the web nowadays to have a fixed navbar element or maybe even a footer...

Hi all, I've just synced about 50 iPhone artboards to Invision, each with the same header and footer. Are you really telling me that there's still no way to set a global header and footer? So I have to click on a screen, click the footer, type the number. Then click the header, and type another number. Then click the next screen, and repeat 50 times? That's 150 clicks, plus moving the mouse around to click in the right area, 50 times. This is madness!

That means - and this is not an exaggeration - that it'll take about 30 minutes to repeatedly do the same thing; something that could be done once in less than 1 minute. So much time is being wasted.

Because this is such a ridiculous problem (and because I can envision (hah) a ridiculously obvious solution), I've included the attached design showing the current version to my proposed version. This would solve a large headache across the globe, though not the more immediate headache for me on this project right now.

The idea being that when you select your device size (or "iPhone Skin" here), it would set the defaults for that device - that you could then change. This would set on ALL screens in your prototype, existing and future uploaded screens.

Please show this to everyone in the InVision team and get their feedback on development time to implement. Because this really is SUCH an important feature - not just for me.

Thanks all.

Jack (www.theuxdesigner.co.uk)

Hi Jack,

Thanks for reaching out on this thread with your detailed report of this issues you are facing, and your suggested solution. I understand how frustrating it is to wait for a potential feature to be released. The Product team is aware of the need for this functionality, but we prioritize issues based on the scope and impact of the issue. For that reason, we don’t have an immediate fix available. However, this is an issue that I will be raising in the soonest Product meetings.

In the meantime, I will open a ticket on your behalf to track your vote for this feature, as well as include your suggested solution. Our Support team will keep you updated on any progress with this feature.

Thanks for bearing with us,
Shaina

Not sure if everyone uses this feature, but it'd be faster to type in the px height for the sticky header/footer instead of manually dragging to set the height. Just trying to help! :)

How do I vote to implement this BASIC feature? Also, would someone explain me why if I had a fixed footer it doesn't just stick at the bottom but cover the bottom of my design? The footer should 'stick' at the bottom when you scroll not force me to leave X amount of empty pixel in order to not cover part of the design...or am I mad thinking of that?

Now not only I have to create 10 fixed footer, I also have to modify 10 different screen and upload them again...

Hi Marco,

I'm happy to open a ticket on your behalf to track your vote for this feature. Please look for a message shortly confirming your vote!

I can assure you that this potential feature is on our Product Team's radar. Part of my job is to take important threads from Community to meetings with relevant Product Managers to discuss the struggles our customers are having. I will be raising this in our next Product Meeting with your feedback.

I apologize for any inconvenience that this is causing for you in the meantime.

Have a great day,

Shaina

This is one of the most annoying things with Invision. Incredibly frustrating and time-consuming.

Even if I write in the numbers manually through the input fields on top (so I don't have to drag the handles all the time), I still have no way of easily going to the next screen because ENTER does not save it and leave the input field. Nope, you're left there and you have to either switch from build to view mode or do something else that will remove you from the input field. Just clicking on the picture would be a better solution too. But I can't even do that.

This way I have to go through hundreds of screens, manually input the number, move to preview mode, go back to build more, switch to the next screen and then repeat this process 200+ times.

Incredible user experience.

Seriously InVision, will this please jump to the product backlog for your developers to prioritise in the next sprint?

It's a laughably easy solution to a ridiculous problem, plus I've already given you a design for it. The design is also on-brand, uses existing components (e.g. your input field and label), and would take less than an HOUR to code. It's really, REALLY easy, and the business case for it is a no-brainer.

Benefits:

- To your developers: It's not a complicated task, and would be an 'easy win'.

- To your Business Development Managers: It's an easy fix to a commonly highlighted problem that causes MANY issues for users (as this thread proves)

- To your Design Team: The design above already exists, so extra resource is not needed. It's there. Pass this to the developers (and claim credit for it too if you like, I don't mind as long as it gets built)

- To your Product Owners: You're fixing a really, REALLY easy problem and securing/retaining important users

- To your Accounts/Finance team: You're fixing a really, REALLY easy problem and securing/retaining important users, and therefore not seeing a drop-off in income. You're spending about 3 hours development max, to create something that will increase customers in the long term and therefore (and this is the crux of it) MAKE INVISION MORE MONEY

I was speaking to an industry-leader about the pros and cons of InVision versus Adobe XD. I'd love to be able to tell him that InVision can do this really basic, simple thing that XD can't. Adobe XD is on the rise, and you need to LISTEN TO YOUR USERS if you continue to claim to be 'built by designers, for designers'.

Please alert your development team to make this a top priority.

Hey everyone,

My name is Taylor Pratt and I'm the product manager for InVision's web prototyping products. I really appreciate all of the feedback on this particular request and am very supportive of the efficiency gain you're looking to get out of this particular feature.

Much of our feature-development has been focused on our upcoming V7 platform, which is why you haven't seen optimizations like this one in place yet. We are actively working on improving our web prototyping capabilities and this is certainly at the top of our list. I can't promise an exact date as to when a feature like this will be available, however.

I realize you're looking for a formal commitment, but I can't give you one at the moment. We are listening, though, and are excited about the improvements we have coming to prototyping in the near future!

I too could really use this feature. Is there a way for users to "upvote" features in your backlog?

Oh and by the way, you should really remember the setting I am entering from one page to the next when I'm doing each screen individually. When I enable fixed header and footer it automatically starts at 80px / 80px and I have to manually override on every page. It should automatically default to my MRU value in that project, when there is one.

Corinne, I've even designed a solution for them already (see above). And 7 months later they still haven't done anything about it. I'm considering not renewing my subscription to be honest, it seems like InVision has forgotten about the community :'(

@jack, while I agree it's frustrating I'm a product designer myself and I'm aware that having a simple mockup is rarely the blocker to getting something into the product pipeline. There's limited time and resources on every team and implementation requires consideration of edge cases, time for engineering and for QA, etc. We should continue to make sure companies know what we want in products, hold them accountable, and move on to better products when needed. But let's not perpetuate the idea that agile development means we can do anything and everything well and quickly.

Hi Corinne,

Thanks for taking the time to reach out here in Community to share your use case for this feature. I appreciate your response to Jack and for understanding the process and time it takes to add new features.

As you can imagine, we receive an overwhelming amount of feature requests for all InVision products. Our Product Managers prioritize issues based on the scope and impact of the issue. Each week, I continue to advocate for all users in Community by bringing relevant Community threads to the appropriate Product Managers. I'm happy to raise this feature request once again with our Product Manager, Taylor, in our next meeting.

While I have no ETA to offer at this time, I will open a ticket on your behalf to track your feedback. Keep an eye out for an email confirming that we have formally tracked your interest.

Have a wonderful day,

Shaina

Again, if anybody else would like to add their voice to this feature, please fill out a ticket with Support here detailing the feature you are looking for.
