Sticky side nav

I've been looking at all the videos and posts but can't seem to find out how to make a sticky side nav bar. Is it an overlay? but I want it to always be on top without needing to be triggered. Is this possible?

Hi Noella, welcome to the InVision Community. While there is not a way to do this natively, there is a workaround:

  1. Upload a full width screen. The width of the 'menu' you want to be fixed should be left transparent. For example, using a 1440px wide screen and your side nav is 300px wide. 1140px of your screen would contains the actual design and the remaining 300px is transparent.
  2. Create a screen with the opposite design, where 1140px is transparent and the final 300px is the side nav design.
  3. Upload the first screen (140px of your screen would contains the actual design and the remaining 300px is transparent) as usual
  4. Click into this screen and click the cogwheel icon on the lower right. In the background image section, click Upload New. Select screen 2 (1140px is transparent and the final 300px is the side nav design).
  5. Click the lock icon to fix the background, and save the settings.

That should do the trick! The only caveat is that you can't set hotspots on the side panel area.

Since this option is limited, I'm opening a ticket so we can track your interest in side navigation as a future feature. You'll be hearing from our Support team shortly. Thanks!

We’re currently tracking interest for this. If you’d like to add your vote for this feature, please contact Support here and voice your opinion!

Got it to work in the Desktop view but was unable to do it for the Tablet view. But this was great. Exactly what i needed for now. Thank you!

Help! I'm trying to follow this hack, but I'm running into an issue. My designs are all set to "Scale down to browser width" and the background image does not have that option. So my side nav is super zoomed in in the background.

How it should look (FYI "Trending People" over on the side is the sticky sidenav):

How it currently looks:

Hi Peri,

I'm wondering if it's the size of your background export? Have you tried bringing it down in size maybe it'll not zoom in?

Let me know if you see any changes

Hi Lala,

What size should it be? Wouldn't it not be responsive then? I need it to display correctly regardless of screen size.

 Peri,

I see your point. I don't think InVision has that feature for background images yet. I've made sure that the Community team is aware of side navigations feature!

If there's anything else we can help you with, please let us know.

Thanks and have a great day,

Lala
