When building your components from scratch in Sketch, there is an ideal way to do this for a design system. Plus there are a few features available in Sketch to utilize for components.
- Start with smaller components and build up to larger ones
- Define elements within components
- Create one symbol source per each component state and variant
- Nest symbols to use symbol overrides
The folder structure chosen in Sketch pulls into DSM. If you’re using Sketch’s slash naming convention (e.g. button/primary/default), you’ll see that it comes over as a folder hierarchy structure when uploading to DSM. On your documentation site, you recommend you choose to follow a similar structure but you can do something different. Just know that the slash naming structure will remain the same when building with a DSM managed library in Sketch.
