Managing your Sketch files

Article Summary

What do you do with the original Sketch file you were working from? Great question!

Once that file is uploaded to DSM, for editors and admins of a design system, your original working file remains on your computer, and you’re able to continue using that file for any new changes. If your team has a solution in place for making changes to your working file, like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Abstract, it’ll be business as usual for continuing to edit those files.

If you don’t have a solution in place to manage original Sketch files, we recommend deciding on an approach for your team—whether it’s through a file hosting platform or by uploading your file to your draft. At a later point, from the DSM plugin, you can download a local copy of your draft to your computer.

To download a DSM managed library to your local environment:

  1. Open the DSM plugin.
  2. Click to expand the systems managed libraries.
  3. Click the Ellipsis icon next to the library.
  4. Choose Download local copy.
