Key findings for success and failure
According to the 2019 Design System Survey by Sparkbox, the key findings for a successful design system were:
The same study found that the key findings for a failed design system were:
So, what does this tell us?
-
Engineering engagement is critical to a successful system, at all phases (planning, build, maintenance) and should be prioritized
-
Adoption and Maintenance are some of the hardest parts to properly design and set up for the design system. However, at InVision, we often see these approached as an afterthought, well after the initial system has been created (and even rolled out).
