At InVision, we believe that collaboration is fundamental to the product development process. That’s why we’re excited to partner with our customers in building the next version of Studio through a public beta of Studio 2.
At its core, Studio 2 is a brand new release (not an update to earlier versions of Studio) with increased performance and an enhanced collaboration experience. Now design files live in the cloud, so teams can work collaboratively in real-time.
What’s new and different in Studio 2 Beta?
✅ Cloud Docs: Design files now live within an InVision account, co-existing with other documents across spaces.
In previous versions of Studio, designers stored .studio files locally.
✅ Collaborative, Real-Time Design: Now, multiple designers and collaborators can simultaneously edit and work together in the same Studio file. Users can see avatars for teammates who are active (and inactive) in the file and which layers are selected.
In previous versions of Studio, designers could only work independently in a given file.
✅ Version History: Designs are automatically saved, which lets teams refer to older versions and even paste in specific objects or artboards to newer versions.
In previous versions of Studio, designers could not view earlier versions, but rather had to save unique .studio files to maintain access to older file versions.
✅ Performance Improvements: We heard loud and clear from customers that the performance in previous versions of Studio was not sufficient. In Studio 2, we’re devoting ongoing resources to prioritize performance and it’s a key metric we’ll track with each new release.
What’s not included in Studio 2 Beta?
🚫 Shared Libraries: While Studio 2 has an improved components management experience, it does not yet enable users to share components with their teammates. Shared libraries is on the roadmap, but we currently do not have a timing estimate for launch.
🚫 Offline Editing: Since Studio 2 documents live in the cloud, users will need to be connected to the internet in order to edit their design files. We do have support through intermittent internet connections, but we do not yet have an explicit offline editing mode.
🚫 Download & Duplicate: We have not yet enabled users to duplicate or download Studio cloud documents.
🚫 App Store: Studio 2 currently does not have an app store. Features such as Write Mode (in beta) are not currently available for Studio 2.
