With InVision V7, Enterprise organizations can work with their Customer Success Manager to enable multi-seat billing, which gives the Enterprise granular control over individuals' document creation privileges at different price points.
Creator, Collaborator & Freehand Collaborator seats compared
Currently, there are three seat types available for multi-seat Enterprise billing:
Creator
- Can edit and inspect prototypes and specs
- Can create groups and all document types—prototypes, specs, freehands, and boards
- Can create design systems (via DSM – separate license required)
- Perfect for designers and other power users
Freehand Collaborator
- Can create and edit freehands
- Can create specs
- Can see, create, and edit design systems (via DSM – separate license required)
- Can edit and inspect other document types, if given edit permissions on that document
- Cannot create prototypes or boards
- Perfect for anyone in the organization looking to collaborate on a digital whiteboard
Collaborator
- Can create and edit freehands
- Can create specs
- Can see, create, and edit design systems (via DSM – separate license required)
- Can edit and inspect other document types, if given edit permissions on that document
- Cannot create prototypes or boards
- Perfect for most developers, writers, product managers, and other content consumers
All seat types can create public share links, comment, inspect, and export prototypes. For a complete overview of the permissions for each seat type, please check out the table in the section below.
Once multi-seat billing is enabled in your V7 Enterprise, new people who join the Enterprise will be assigned either the Collaborator, Creator, or Freehand Collaborator seat, depending on the seat types available for the account.
How do seat types affect user roles?
Enterprise user roles and their respective permissions are managed independently of the creator, collaborator, or freehand collaborator seat types and respective permissions. This means that an Enterprise with multi-seat billing enabled can fine-tune the creation privileges of any owner, admin, manager, member, or guest of the Enterprise by assigning the individual a creator, collaborator, or freehand collaborator seat. For example, if a user with the role of member (someone who can create documents) is assigned the seat type of collaborator (someone who can't create prototypes or boards), the user won't be able to create prototypes or boards unless their seat type is changed.
Remember, Design System Manager (DSM) plans are managed separately from InVision V7 plans; therefore, assigning seat types for your V7 Enterprise will not affect your DSM plan. Not leveraging DSM for your Enterprise yet? Get familiar with DSM now.

Assigning seats
To set the seat type while inviting new users to your multi-seat Enterprise via the People page:
- Sign in to your InVision Enterprise:
enterprise-name
.invisionapp.com - On the left sidebar, click the (more) menu and then select People.
- At the top right, click the Add button.
- Select Team members, External guests, or User group.
- Enter the invitees' email addresses, separated by commas.
- Click the Seat type dropdown and select Creator, Collaborator, or Freehand Collaborator.
The seat type will be assigned to all invitees you entered in step 5.
- If the invitees should belong to any user group, you can select the group(s) in the Invite to user groups field.
- Click Invite.
It's not currently possible to assign the seat type when inviting new users to an Enterprise via the document share modal; therefore, any document invitee who doesn't yet belong to the Enterprise will be added to the organization with their role set to Guest, with their seat type depending on the seats available for the account.
Updating seats
It is not possible to update seat types in a single-seat Enterprise. To explore multi-seat options for your team, please reach out to your customer success manager or account executive.
To change the seat type of someone who already belongs (or has been invited) to your multi-seat Enterprise:
- Sign in to your InVision Enterprise:
enterprise-name
.invisionapp.com - On the left sidebar, click the (more) menu and then select People.
- Just below the People heading, click the appropriate tab: Members, Invitations, or User groups
- In the Seat type column to the right of the user's name, click their currently assigned seat type.
The Seat type column will be visible for multi-seat Enterprise accounts.
- In the Change seat type modal, select either Creator, Collaborator, or Freehand Collaborator, and then confirm by clicking Change seat type.
