InVision Cloud V7: Managing two-factor authentication (2FA) for yourself

Follow

This article provides answers for InVision Cloud V7. If you're on V6 of InVision, read this article instead. Not sure which version you're using? Find out now.

Enhance your InVision Cloud V7 authentication security by implementing two-factor authentication (2FA), including 2FA via authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, or any other app that uses a time-based, one- time password algorithm.

Cloud V7 Enterprise teams can require 2FA for the entire organization. Learn how now.

Enabling 2FA for yourself

When setting up 2FA for your individual InVision account, you can choose to use an authentication app (like Google Authenticator or Authy) or SMS to obtain 2FA codes.

While setting up 2FA, we strongly advise that you store the recovery codes somewhere safe (not in your phone), as using these codes will be the only way to access your account if a device is lost or your phone number is changed. Each of these codes can be used once to sign in to the account, bypassing the need for an authentication device.

Enable 2FA for use with an authentication app

To enable 2FA for your InVision account via an authentication app:

  1. Sign in to InVision Cloud V7.
  2. Near the top-right corner, click your avatar and then click Manage account.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Below the Update button, click Set up 2FA.
  5. Download and/or open your preferred authentication app.
  6. In the Configure two-step authentication modal in InVision:
    1. Use your authentication app to scan the barcode.
    2. Enter the verification code provided by your authentication app.
    3. Click Verify.
    4. Save your recovery codes in a secure place, and then click Done.
  7. Click Close.

After completing the steps above, InVision Cloud will prompt you to provide the 2FA code generated by your app each time you sign in.

Enable 2FA for use with SMS text messages

Customers in countries that heavily restrict automated SMS messages—e.g., India, China, or France—will likely face severe limitations if using SMS as the 2FA code delivery method. Read the details.

If you prefer to receive 2FA codes by SMS, complete these steps to enable 2FA for your InVision account:

  1. Sign in to InVision Cloud V7.
  2. Near the top-right corner, click your avatar, and then click Manage account.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Below the Update button, click Set up 2FA.
  5. At the bottom of the page, click Use an SMS text message to set up 2FA.
  6. Enter your phone number, and then click Continue.
  7. Enter the verification code you receive from InVision via SMS text message, and then click Enable 2FA.
  8. Save your recovery codes in a secure place, and then click Done.

Generating new recovery codes

When setting up 2FA for your individual account, it’s very important to store the recovery codes somewhere safe. Likewise, if you ever lose the recovery codes provided when you set up 2FA, you will want to generate and save new recovery codes right away.

Why’s it so important to store your recovery codes? Should you ever lose your phone or change your phone number (and you have 2FA enabled), you will need to use one of your recovery codes to access your InVision account.

To generate new recovery codes for 2FA:

  1. Sign in to InVision Cloud V7.
  2. Near the top-right corner, click your avatar, and then click Manage account.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Next to Two-step authentication at the bottom of the page, click Settings.
  5. Next to Recovery codes, click View.
  6. Click New codes.
  7. Copy, print, download, or otherwise save your new recovery codes in a secure place.
  8. Click Done, and then click Close.
