What is the Stash Studio app?

Follow

Use the Stash app to create snapshots of your Studio design changes and stash them away for later use. Stash is a terrific tool for designers who need to explore multiple concepts without the need to save separate versions of the Studio file. Simply explore your concept and then stash the changes for each iteration, so you can bring them back to life as needed later.

In short, think of Stash as your personal copy & paste amplifier!

Using Stash

With Stash you can store multiple iterations of your artboards, layers, groups, components, and images. In other words, you can stash any element of your design that doesn't quite work today, so you have the option to explore it again and re-introduce it down the road—without the hassle of recreating it.

Create a new stash

To create a new stash:

  1. In the Studio layers panel (or on the canvas), select the artboard, layer, or other item you want to stash.
  2. In the Studio App Store dock, click the Stash icon (studio-stash-app-icon.png).
  3. At the bottom of the Stash modal, click Copy [name of item].
The complete button name is based on the name of the artboard, layer, or other item currently selected in the layers panel.

Paste an existing stash

To paste a stash into your design:

  1. In the Studio layers panel (or on the canvas), select the artboard, layer, or other item to which you want to paste the stash.
  2. In the Studio App Store dock, click the Stash icon (studio-stash-app-icon.png).
  3. In the list of stashes, to the right of the one you want to use, click Paste.
After pasting, you may need to move the stash above other layers to see it on the canvas.

Filtering your stashes

You can filter your stashes by time of creation or by name—alphanumerically.

To change the filter setting:

  1. In the Studio App Store dock, click the Stash icon (studio-stash-app-icon.png).
  2. Just below the image preview area of the Stash modal, click the dropdown arrow.
The dropdown name is based on the filter currently selected.
  3. Click your preferred filter setting:
    • Newest first
    • Oldest first
    • By name (A-Z)
    • By name (Z-A)

Renaming, exporting, or deleting a stash

To rename, export, or delete a stash:

  1. In the Studio App Store dock, click the Stash icon (studio-stash-app-icon.png).
  2. In the Stash list, to the right of the one you want to work with, click the More menu icon (studio-stash-more-menu-icon.png).
  3. Click the appropriate option:
    • Rename: The name of the stash will become editable. Enter the new name and click Done.
    • Export: In the dialog that opens, select a file destination and click Open. Your stash will be exported as a ZIP file.
    • Delete: After clicking Delete, the stash will be removed from your Stash list.

Pasting a stashed component

When placing a stashed component into your Studio file, all component instances will be converted back to their definitions. Components will appear as either a group or a disconnected component.
