Add comments to a prototype

You can add new comments via Comment mode.

To add a comment to a prototype screen:

  1. Open a prototype screen and, at the bottom of the page, select Comment () or use the keyboard shortcut C.
  2. To add a new comment, click anywhere on the screen and begin typing in the comment field. You can also select an existing comment to add a reply.
  3. Select the comment color selector and then select the color you want to apply: pink, yellow, or blue.
  4. If you want to make the comment private to only those with editing access, switch the lock icon on. A closed lock denotes a private comment.
  5. If you want to highlight the comment instead, select More options (•••), and then select Highlight comment.
  6. Once finished, select Post or use the shortcut Command + Enter.

Mention someone

To notify a specific person about your comment, @mention the person by name or email address.

Please note:

  • For a seamless experience, invite new users to your team before mentioning them in a document.
  • Only signed in members of your team can @mention others through public share links.

To mention someone:

  1. Sign in to your InVision V7 team: your-team-domain.invisionapp.com
  2. Open a prototype, and open the screen you wish to comment on.
  3. Open Comment mode: type the C shortcut, or select Comment () at the bottom of the InVision console.
  4. Click anywhere on the screen to leave a comment.
  5. Type @ and begin typing the name of the person you want to mention.
  6. Select that person from the search results.

Repeat step 5 for each person you want to mention in that comment.

  7. After typing your comment, select Post.

If they're subscribed to notification emails, each person you mentioned receives an email notifying them about the comment.

TipYou and your collaborators also receive in-app notifications when you're on a document landing page (that shows all screens). To see the latest feedback, select the notifications iconin the upper-right corner. Learn more about Inbox in InVision V7.

Use emoji in comments

To add emoji to your comments, select the emoji icon () within the comment modal.

To open the emoji autocomplete menu, press the : (colon) key. Then, type the name of the emoji you want to use and click the result or—once the emoji is selected—press Enter.

Choose your comment type

Choose between two types of comments for InVision V7 prototypes:

  • Comments: By default, anyone who can access the document—either as an editor or as a viewer with a public share link—can see or leave regular comments. Many customers use regular comments to communicate with all stakeholders.
  • Highlighted comments: If a viewer accesses the prototype via a public share link, any highlighted comments pulsate to stand out from the design itself when viewing screens in Play mode. By highlighting comments, you can establish a navigational guide for anyone viewing the prototype when you're not there to guide them directly.
NoteHighlighted comments aren't available for Spec documents.

Comments panel

Never miss out on the conversation! The prototype comments panel combines all conversations taking place on that prototype, giving you a bird’s-eye view of all threads for easy access and management. Browse, reply, edit, delete, filter, and resolve comments, all in one place.

To open the comments panel, select Comments () in the right sidebar. You can refine your search using the filters at the top of the comments panel.

Select each entry to see each full individual thread and to reply, edit, delete, and resolve comments.

Conversations are sorted by recency, with the newest comments appearing first. Unread comments appear highlighted in blue so you always know what requires attention first.

The sidebar and the cards in Comment mode are always in sync, allowing you to go back and forth between both views without losing any context.

Filter comments

Always find what you need. You can use the filters to see all comments in a document, or to view only unread comments or conversations where you’re mentioned. You can also switch the visibility of resolved comments.

To fine-tune comment visibility:

  1. Select Show me in the top-right corner of the comments sidebar.
  2. In the dropdown:
    • choose between All comments, Unread comments, or Mentions.
    • select the Resolved comments checkmark to display or hide resolved comments.

With the Enable Commenting setting toggled on for a public share link, anyone who receives the link can view and comment on the prototype. Sharing a public link is a great way to let someone who isn't a member or guest of your InVision V7 account collaborate on a prototype.

Warning: You can't resolve comments via a public share link.
Only signed in members of your team can mention people through public share links.

To enable commenting on a public share link:

  1. Open the document and, in the top-right corner, select Share.
  2. In the Share dialog, select Public, and then select Get Public Link.
Note: If there is already an existing public link for the document, you don't see the Get Public Link screen.
  3. Select Update public link settings, turn on the Enable Commenting setting on, and then select Done.

People who receive a public share link can sign in to an existing account or create a new team-less account. The commenting experience differs slightly depending on which of the following applies:
