Assets

This article does not apply to Studio prototypes. If you're interested in downloading assets from a Studio prototype, read the "Assets" section in this article: Inspect for Studio

Using InVision V6, you can quickly share assets with collaborators and team members. To access a prototype's assets, open the prototype and, near the top of the page, click the Assets tab.

This image shows the InVision homepage and uses an added pink arrow to indicate where the Assets tab is located.

Manually adding assets

The Assets tab allows you to keep all project-related files—including source files—in one place. You can also create folders to organize your content.

Currently, folders and items cannot be rearranged. We recommend creating folders before uploading individual items.

To create a new folder:

  1. Open your prototype and, near the top of the page, click the Assets tab.
  2. If the folder should be nested inside a larger folder, click to open the desired parent folder.
  3. At the top right, click Create A New Folder.
  4. Type the folder name and press Enter.
This image shows InVision open to the Assets tab and uses an added pink square to indicate where the 'Create a New Folder' button is located.
To rename a folder you created, hover over the folder and click the pencil icon (This image is the pencil icon that users will click, after hovering over a folder in InVision, to edit the folder's name.).

To upload a new asset:

  1. Open your prototype and, near the top of the page, click the Assets tab.
  2. If the file should be uploaded to a specific folder, click to open the desired folder.
  3. At the top right, click Add A New File.
  4. Drag-and-drop the desired file(s), or click Browse.

Adding assets via Craft Sync

Using Craft Sync, you can add assets directly from Sketch or Photoshop. Located within the Assets tab of your prototype, these assets will appear in the Images > Inspect folder.

To add assets from Sketch, mark the desired layer as exportable in Sketch. Then sync your prototype to InVision using Craft Sync. After doing so, you should notice the assets in the Assets tab.

When using Sketch, If you have multiple groups or layers at the same level that have the same name, InVision will automatically append unique numbers to the end of the file names. This allows you to more easily distinguish between similar items available for download. For example, if you have two layers in Sketch named rectangle, they will be renamed rectangle-1 and rectangle-2 in InVision. The layer names in your original Sketch file will remain unchanged.

To add assets from Photoshop, append ".png" to the end of the layer name and sync your prototype to InVision using Craft Sync.

For each artboard in Photoshop, we recommend giving a unique name to every group, nested group, and layer that you want to export as assets. If multiple layers or groups share the same name, it can prevent assets from being generated properly in Inspect.

Managing assets

Viewing asset history

Assets added via Craft Sync will maintain a history of each version that was uploaded. To view an asset's version history:

  1. Open your prototype and, near the top of the page, click the Assets tab.
  2. If needed, click the search icon (This image is the Search icon users can click in the InVision interface to search for specific assets.) and search for your asset by name.
At this time, you can only search within the current folder. If the item is in a subfolder or a different folder, it won't appear in the search results.
  3. Once you've located the desired asset, hover over the asset and click the history icon (This image is the History icon users can click in the InVision interface to check all versions of a specific asset.).

Here you can view or download any version of the asset.
