Enhance your InVision authentication security by implementing two-factor authentication (2FA), including 2FA via authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, or any other app that uses a time-based, one-time password algorithm.

InVision V7 Enterprise teams can require 2FA for the entire organization. Learn how.

Enable 2FA for yourself

When setting up 2FA for your individual InVision account, you can choose to use an authentication app (like Google Authenticator or Authy) or SMS to obtain 2FA codes.

While setting up 2FA, we strongly advise that you store the recovery codes somewhere safe (not in your phone), as using these codes will be the only way to access your account if a device is lost or your phone number is changed. Each of these codes can be used once to sign in to the account, bypassing the need for an authentication device.

Enable 2FA via authentication app

To enable 2FA for your InVision account via an authentication app:

  1. Sign in to your InVision account.
  2. Near the top right, select your avatar > Manage account.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select Set up 2FA.
  5. Open your preferred authentication app.
  6. On the Configure Two-Factor Authentication page in InVision, follow the steps and select Verify.
  7. After saving your recovery codes, select Done.

After completing the steps above, InVision will prompt you to provide the 2FA code generated by your app each time you sign in.

Enable 2FA via SMS text messages

Warning:
Customers in countries that heavily restrict automated SMS messages—e.g., India, China, or France—will likely face severe limitations if using SMS as the 2FA code delivery method. Read the details.

If you prefer to receive 2FA codes by SMS, complete these steps to enable 2FA for your InVision account:

  1. Sign in to your InVision account.
  2. Near the top right, select your avatar, and then select Manage account.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select Set up 2FA.
  5. At the bottom of the page, select Use an SMS text message to set up 2FA.
  6. Enter your phone number, and then select Continue.
  7. Enter the verification code you receive from InVision via SMS text message, and then select Enable 2FA.
  8. After saving your recovery codes, select Done.

Generate new recovery codes

When setting up 2FA for your individual account, it’s very important to store the recovery codes somewhere safe. Should you ever lose your phone or change your phone number (and you have 2FA enabled), you will need to use one of your recovery codes to access your InVision account.

If you lose the original recovery codes, you will need to generate and save new recovery codes right away.

To generate new recovery codes:

  1. Sign in to your InVision account.
  2. Near the top right, select your avatar, and then select Manage account.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Next to Two-step authentication, select Settings.
  5. Next to Recovery codes, select View.
  6. Select New codes.
  7. Copy, print, download, or otherwise save your new recovery codes in a secure place.
  8. Select Done, and then select Close.
